McDermott question

Does anyone know if Mcdermott's warrentee is honored if they think abuse was involved? I have a friend that has a $120ish cue that He bought used from someone while at a tourny, supposedly only a few months old. the pin is 3/8x10, and the wood joint seems to have swelled, so you can't thread it on very far. I looked at the threads and they look like someone ran a sharp blade or something into the threads just like a glue relief slot. Also about 1/3 of the threads on one side are disentergrated going all the way down. My friend actually forced the shaft on twice since it developed the problem, and I think that's why the threads are gone. would this be considered abuse? I can fix it with a rebore, plug and retap but don't want to messup his warrentee.

Dave don't worry about the warranty, there isn't one, above you stated the following - have a friend that has a $120ish cue that He bought used from someone while at a tourny, Dave the warranty is only to the original owner, and I certainly think the problem you outlined would be considered abuse anyway.

I would core out the shaft to 7 1/6 and then insert Canvas Phenolic Rod and re-tap it. I use this insert on the shafts I make and I have been doing so for close to years without a problem.

Hope this helps!!!

Hi Dave
Unfortunately, I do nt think McDermottt will warranty the cue. The Warranty is non transferable, only good for the original owner. This is what I have read and I have been doing that alot lately because of my own cue.

Sorry, hopefully I am wrong

McDermott Handcrafted Cues warrants its pool cues purchased from an authorized McDermott Cue retailer or distributor , provided that the claim is accompanied by a copy of the original sales receipt from an authorized McDermott dealer. so since your freind bought the cue used he probably has no warrenty weather he cuased the problem or not.

FWIW, anytime a 3/8 x 10 pin starts to get tight in the shaft, a few shavings of candle wax on the pin & entrance to the shaft will provide enough lubricity to allow the cue to be put together with significantly less bind.

Thanks for the clarification guys, that's what I thought, but just wanted to confirm. What I find interesting is the tenon that the ring is on is only
.560 dia. not the usual .625, so there isn't alot of room to rebore and plug. Won't be a problem, Just alittle surprised. I'll work on it tonite before league. Thanks again,
Dave
