McDermott Warranty Question

I have a McDermott older model cue that the shaft cracked near the joint - it is approximately 1 inch in length pretty much straight up. The problem is I do not have a receipt and from reading on the website, it says a receipt is necessary. My question is has anyone ever had to call upon the warranty without a receipt - how did it come out? and secondly, would a crack of this sort be something that was covered? The only reason I would bother with this is because I had a custom shaft made for it and it does not have the same feel to it.

Thanks in advance.

I doubt that you will have much luck, particularly if the cue was purchased before they started the warranty. You would have to have the original receipt from an authorized dealer. The only way I believe they will not give you grief is if it is pretty obvious that it is a structural or manufacturing error not related to wear and tear. Good luck, but I wouldn't keep my hopes too high. Is the ringwork unique? Maybe you can get them to replace the entire shaft at a wholesale price. Also, do they have, or have they seen the shaft in question? They may be inclined to do something to keep your business if they see that the shaft/cue was not abused.

Take care

I think you are SOL in regards to a warranty. They even charge $25 each time you send them your cue for the free maintenance ???

I sent one of my McDermott cues (an EN5, which is 10+ years old) in with a crooked pin and it was about $80 to get it fixed, I did try the warranty angle though and I also had no reciept. I do feel the price was resonable though, this was probable 3-4 years ago.

My first cue purchase was about 10 years ago, and it was a McDermott Balicini (Graphite) cue. I played for a couple of years with it (it helped build the foundation for hating graphite cues), before it was dropped and the shaft was cracked. I contacted McDermott and they were quick to get back with me. I talked to a gentlemen, told him of the situation, and asked if there was any applicable warranty. He called back promptly and informed me that he had another cue of that model there in stock, and that he would be willing to send it to me no charge if I sent the other one back in. I was very impressed with that, and it was by far the best customer service that I have had bar none. It has been about 7-8 years since then. Just my 2 cents.

thanks to all of you. I had a feeling the warranty angle was a dead end, but I just really want to find a shaft that made the cue feel the way it did. It is extremely frustrating to loose the cue you have played with for ten years or so.

take care.

Good Morning, I am a Dealer for McDermott Cues. The current Warranty program began in 2004, if the cue was purchased before that date there is no warranty in place for your cue. The reason the receipt is an issue is because of all the McDermott dealers allowing others to sell cues on eBay at a hugh discount.
Currently when you purchase a McDermott cue, you must first register the item at McDermott.com. Ebay receipts are not recognised for warranty purposes.

If you still have the shaft, do not throw it away. The collar can be saved by a cue repairman and new shaft made. You could also send the cue back to McDermott yourself and have another shaft made, it will cost you $125 by McDermott or around $100 to $125 from a cue repairman.

If you choose to send the cue back, have them completely refinish it, and then the cue will have a warranty for the future, I have done this for customers, and it includes extra shafts made.

Hope this helps!!!!!!

thanks for the advice, i would have never known that the collar could be re-used. i have not tossed the shaft and in fact had another made by a custom cue guy where i used to live. unfortunately, the deflection was not the same as with the original so i haven't shot with the cue since. i did buy it prior to the warranty plan starting also, so guess i have to have another made by McDermott. if it shoots like it did before, i am all for it.

thanks again.
