hey guys,
im going to get my cue retiped this weekend and dont know which one i should choose. moori medium or moori hard. traditionaly speeking i have always played with a medium tip on my cues but never tried a moori yet. my playing cue hasnt had a tip for a while so i have been shooting with my friends cheep players for a couple weeks. he has a hard lepro tip that i kinda liked. should i stay with a medium tip as i have before or try the moori hard? i dont shoot to try and crack the balls or anything, im a slow player and like to controll the cue ball as much as possible. with that said, can you get the same amount of cue ball controll out of a mori hard as you would a medium?
thanks,
Jay

I just got two Moori mediums and two Moori hards installed on three different cues... It is my first experience with Moori and I found the mediums to be quite hard but responsive... having a nice feel and little miscuing. I doubt that you would know the difference between the medium and hard, so I recommend that you try the medium first. They are great tips and should give a slow player fine cueball control.

I've had good luck recently with the medium Moori tips on my shafts. I had played with triangles for quite some time but was starting to notice some big inconsistencies with them. The moori's need to be scuffed a little more often than the triangles but they are definitely worth the money.

i was wondering if they needed to be scuffed a lot or not. im relativley new to pool so by saying they need to be scuffed you mean they glaze over? i had a le pro tip that was badly glazed but switched from masters to silver cup blue and it held just fine without any scuffing. also would you just use a little sandpaper or a shaper to scratch up the tip a bit?
thanks again,
Jay

I've heard some people say they have to scuff their Mooris often but I rarely do. No problems here.

I've played with both the Mediums and the Hard (Quick). I didn't notice a big difference. Most of the cues and shafts I have been buying come with a Medium by default so that is what I play with most of the time.

Jay, it seems that most people according to the information I have observed over the last year, prefer the medium over the hard Moori.

thanks for all the quick replies and input...best pool forum online by far!

I just acquired two hard mooris and they are very hard, aaaalmost too hard imo. They almost sound like a phenolic break tip. But I do have a medium moori on my P2 and have had it on there for about 5-6 months and it still hits very nicely. I would go with the meduim but the hard is still a good tip and I bet that it would last like a year.

Guido has a hardness tester that he uses on the Moori Tips that he has. He said that they are all over the range and this is the only sure method of getting the right and consistant degree of hardness.

well i ended up going yesterday and getting a moori medium. im extatic. i played last night for about 4 hours. i love it. it makes my cheep sneaky pete worth while. i drew the cue ball the length of the table for the first time, not once but a bunch of times. its awsome. it only took 2 or 3 racks to get used to. a friend of mine and i played 9 ball race to 7. i lost the match but i did run 4 racks...anyway moori's have me sold...good responsive tips in my opinion.
