Anyone who wasn't watching TAR's stream of the event really missed out on some top notch bar box 8 ball. If anyone got a turn at the table, they got out. Period. They always found a way.

Melling had some ugly ones where he was scrambling for the first few shots before getting in line. Once in line he didn't let up, and shane of course plays the same way. Nice little breakouts and careful bump-shape.

Shane caught 2 dry breaks in a row, even with his monstrous break he doesn't automatically get a ball. I think Melling had only one. Melling plays a corner break, people were saying he was trying the 2nd ball break to try to sink the 8 but I disagree... 8's not a win under these rules. I noticed the opposite corner ball rocketed in a lot with that break. I think he's playing a ball but I don't know which or how. Maybe it's like the 1p break, where catching the 1st ball thin and 2nd ball square can cause the corner ball to carom towards the pocket. But it can't be that cuz that sends whitey towards a scratch.

Anyway, at hill-hill... after two dry breaks Shane didn't screw around. Two or three balls dropped, including the 8. He had to wait for a ref to be fetched so the 8 could be respotted, and possibly he got a little impatient waiting for this. He had a very open, runnable table but dogged his first shot in the side (passing up a hanger in the corner). Might have been his only missed ball, and he looked like he was about to snap his cue.

Melling got through most of the balls in his textbook way, then got a little hairy on the 2nd-to-last stripe. He was forced to cinch it and run into a huge 3-ball on the head rail. He then faced one of those length of the table cuts where both balls are like 4 feet from the pocket and whitey's up against the head rail. He never looked like missing it.

Looking forward to seeing more tomorrow.
