I have been playing for about 20yrs,studying the game ,going to pro events(watching)and practicing.Never been a big gambler.more of a tournament player.I have a pretty solid game but I keep shooting myself in the foot,I will out saftey my opponent, outbreak him, open up the table and then it happens,Everything is in place and im running out and at some point usually i will miss,or hook myself about half the time, when i survey the rack on the last few balls and i c no problems.Thats when it happens. Is there a MENTAL pre shot routine u know of to keep ur mind in the right place>?

I hate when that little voice says, " this is a tough shot" "easy to miss" "Did I turn off the iron?"........hughhhh

Get a video of yourself playing and send it to Randy G. He has a posting in the Ask the instructor forum offering to analyze our video's. Don't miss out on this great opportunity.

When that happens to me it usually is because I have jumped ahead. I see myself running the rack instead of making the next shot.

It is the pool players paradox. On the one hand you know that to get to that last plateau you must become a gambler. On the other, you have moral, ethical, or financial obligations that prevent you doing so.
Somewhere in life there is a crossroad for each of us, where a bargain must be struck. When you see the man dressed in black, tell him I'm doing fine.
Jeez...I just scared the crap out of myself again.

You too? This happens to me all too often. Me thinks me thinks too much. The voices are content to be quiet while you work thru the rack until the finish is in sight. Then the voices start up with a loud chorus of "Are we there yet, Are we there yet'? My opponent waits for the train wreck-and I seldom dissapoint.

I look forward to cold and flu season because-sipping Robitussin during the game becomes far more socially acceptable.

I haven't noticed if I'm racking less-but I have noticed that the voices are not coughing and sneezing.

I call it the trash man syndrome. Run the meaningless 5-6 balls and hang the case ball. Some people say every shot is of equal importance-no more/no less. I just have to figure out how to get 'some people' to take those last couple of shots for me in order to run out.

Robitussin is not the answer-but quieting the doubting voices may be.

Good luck. If you find the answer-bottle that stuff!

Dont know if this will help or not---but her goes--- had a quality player come in my room to practice week or so before a tourny-- he would break take ball in hand and run down to the 6or7 and lose it!! i sat quitly watching, he did this over and over, finley he look at me and said STICK what am i doing wrong???? my reply R#### IF YOU SHOT THE 6 OUT LIKE YOU SHOT THE 1-6 you go up a notch or two--- YOU ARE NOT FINISHING THE RACE , after the 5ball he was losing focus, , came back week or two later said thanks STICK , I FINISHED 2ND IN TWO BIG ONES, focus!!!!!!!!!:grin-square:
