Merry Widow

Michael, that would qualify as a Merry Widow, under the definition that I understand. And a nice looking cue at that.

All the best,
WW

Hey WW - I just noticed n your profile image, the center cue. Mid 70s, I had a Palmer exactly like that one, with a black leather wrap. I loved that cue. Niccceeeeeeee!

Thank you. It it the Palmer second catalog Model C, Gene Balner's tribute to the Rambow cue. If yours had leather, it was most likely an after-addition to the cue.

All the best,

Actually, no, I bought it brand new from Palmer. Actually, someone else in the room ordered it but when it arrived, he didn't like it so I bought it from him. He didn't even hit a ball with it. The only issue I had with it was, the rings began to mushroom on me. I used it to break with, but, I've always used my player to break and no other rings have ever done that. But man, did I love that cue. It hit 'em solid as a rock and it was gorgeous. I ended up selling it to Randy Brown. He had it less than a year, got drunk somewhere and left it on the top of his car when he drove home.

Oops.

Too bad you didn't save that Palmer. I've never heard of a second, or first, for that matter, catalog cue that came with a leather wrap.

By rings mushrooming, you mean the two little rings between the wood and implex buttplate? I've never heard of that happening.

All the best

i have always used the terms plain jane and merry widow interchangeably

when they get fancy rings i feel awkward calling them plain or merry widows

wraps or no wraps ,to me makes no difference

i have had 1 piece ebony or maple cues made by larry vigus
he cores the entire cue with another wood

i like both the look and play of these and fear no warp age

personally i think these cues make a lot of sense
