Met a Lot of New People Here

One of the joys of my annual trip to the BCA open is meeting new people. Happens every year.

Today, at long last, I met our AZHOUSEPRO, Mike Howerton. I also had the pleasure of meeting Eydie Romano and, if I hadn't run off to the tournemnt room, would have met Bob Romano, too. Eydie and Mike love pool the way I love it, and it was a real treat to hook up with them and chat about, what else, pool. Met onepocketchump John Barton earlier this week, and he's a great guy.

I also met some of the lady pros I'd never met before. Sarah Ellerby introduced me to Wendy Jans. Kim Shaw introduced me to Kelly Fisher and Val Fiinnie. I chatted only briefly with Jasmine Ouschan, whom I had met in 2002, but wondered whether she remembered me, despite her possibly diplomatic claim that she did.

Sad to say, I didn't get to meet our fellow poster Timberly, despite trying to locate her. Hope to get the chance one of these days.

SJM,

It was such a pleasure to meet you today. I have always enjoyed your posts and now your friendship. I wish I would have had more time with you, but as of this minute Bob's team is in the top 4 in the winners bracket, and I had to race off to pace like mother hen watching the match.

I agree with you, I would have liked to have met Timberly. This is a big family of pool, we grow every year. John Barton is also a good friend, he always watches out for me. Great guy like Mike Howerton, a true friend.

Had a wonderful time this year, it is the 14th year for us attending. I will be doing an article on it in the next few weeks. Loads to tell as always.

What up Timberly? I had an absolute blast meeting and hanging with you. We will definitely have to do it again. Let me know which tournaments you will be at...and I will see when I can arrange my schedule to meet up with y'all.

For those of you who didn't get to meet Timberly...y'all missed out. She is a beautiful girl...warm and friendly and loads of fun!

Big hugs!
Melissa

PS...thanks for taking care of me when things got a little out of hand that first night we met!

Timberly, if you were hanging with Melissa, you were doing AOK. She's way cooler than me!

Awww, thanks Melissa! As far as "taking care of you"... don't mention it. If I know me, you'll get the chance to re-pay the favor. :D

SJM, you're a cool guy... don't have to meet ya to know that. However, you're gonna get on my bad side if you don't find me next time... I even gave you the "inside scoop" on how to find me!

It was so nice to meet you Timberly. I didn't get a chance to meet Mike butI have met so many people and so many already knew who I was. Some people would just say hey your Kay. It was such an experience for me to meet with everyone. I have had so much fun here at the BCA event. Saw a lot of old friends too that I had met in Valley Forge. Some of my tour players were there too and came to see me. I love working with John (onepocketchump) and the rest of the Fury crew. It is such a joy and I will do this again and again with them. The Fury group are such a fun group. We are still here and will be through VNEA. Looking forward to seeing some more of my tour players too.

Spinola-darling-man-o-my-dreams,

It is such a shame that you and Dan-the-man missed Vegas this year! I always love hanging out with you two!!! If you guys had been there....y'all might have even been able to keep me outta trouble! ;)

And of course it was Dan's fault....isn't it always?

Hugs - Melissa

I am disappointed that more AZ'ers didn't make it to the Fury booth as a group. Y'all be sure and use our space as a hangout/meeting place in the future. As it was I am sure pleased to have met the people I didn't know and see the ones I do again.

Timberly, how was our party compared to Inside Pool's party? Inquiring minds want a qualified opinion.

It definitely has potential. For me there's a certain comfort level at the inside pool party because I know quite a few people there and that leads to them introducing me to new people, and so forth. (I really only knew you at the Fury party) When you first mentioned the idea of an Inside pool party with pool tables, I thought "that would be cool". The more I think about it, the more I don't think I would want it. The reason being is that I had forgotten one of the reasons I enjoy the inside pool party so much(which is also one of the reasons I explain to others why it's so much fun).... You get to sit down, relax, drink, and talk to the players, backers, sponsors, basically the pool community as a whole is represented there... outside of the pool hall/tourney arena. When you think about it, it's very rare that you get to do that. Very few players are going to drink and laugh (except Keith) during a tourney or while they're gambling. You actually get to know the people on a more personal level. You put a pool table or two in that party, and you lose that element. The woofing would be fun to listen too but overall it would take away from the party. That being said, the Fury party catered to a different group of people. LOL, I knew no one there but it appeared that it was mostly people from the amatuers tourney. (I'm not including the Fury sponsored pro's in this so don't hang me for saying that) But my point is, most of the people that were at that party were much like myself... their enjoyment is going to the bar, drinking a few beers and banging the balls around. Ball bangers like myself and most amatuers can have fun with that... we can share the table, drink, and laugh. For that group of people, you guys had the perfect set up and the people that were there were having a great time. At the inside pool party, they wouldn't have banged the balls around for fun and all be merry. Whatever two guys woofed the loudest and put up the biggest bank roll would've been on the table playing 13 ahead for 13 hrs.

Now that I've written a novel... basically both parties work perfect for the group that they cater to. As you know, I brought the wife of another player with me because my b/f ended up having to work and her husband was stuck working with him. While we didn't know anyone but you, we still had a nice time away from the large crowd, enjoying our cold beverage while watching everyone else shoot pool and hang out. Thank you for inviting me, I was quite honored to get my own personal invite from you the night before and wouldn't have missed it. If this was your first party and you're wondering how it went overall... I would say keep it going and keep catering to the group that you had. They'll not only enjoy the format more, but they'll appreciate it more also. ;)

Thank you Timberly. As always I appreciate your insight. Thanks for showing up and adding a couple more "babes" to the party. Consider yourself personally invited to anything we do. I had hoped that more of the vendors would come but I understand they don't want to hang out after doing 14 hours already.

Till next time!

You're quite welcome and thanks for the permanent invite! LOL, I think ya'll know me well enough by now that if I'm at the event, I'm not going to pass up the party! Count me in! ;)

sjm, I missed this post back in May. LOL, I don't know if I'm the coolest of the cool but I do like to have a good time! I know I won't be able to go to the turning stone or whatever it's called next month but I'll definitely be hitting one of the tourney's up there... I'm hoping to make it to the big apple @ masters or the world summit. Are you going to the Open in Sept?
