Meucci classic shaft

Hello everyone,
I was just wanting to pick some brains here.. I just got back into the game within last couple of years, after being out of it for 12 or so. Any way I purchased a Meucci 97-12 cue with a bulls-eye black dot shaft. I am struggling getting a feel for the firm stroke of this as compared to the shaft from my Meucci of 25 years ago.. I want another deflective/whippy shaft. I seen on Muecci web site they are calling it classic, but i dont see pricing for it. Not even on alot of the billiards website I frequent. Does anyone know where I could purchase, or do i just need to have one made? I really liked the whipiness and the longer taper on that old shaft. Thanks for everyones assistance..

i find Viking shafts to be similarly whippy... if no success finding the "right" Meucci shaft, might see if you can find an old Viking...

Well, I never cared for custom cues, and I've been playing with an old Meucci for a long time. Through the years I've needed shafts also. Here's what I do to get that whippy feel.

I go on ebay, buy a 30 dollar shaft, ( I bought one of those cheapo drill jigs)

like this one ...

But, you can just buy a 5/16/18 bolt at home depot, cut the head off and put it in your drill chuck, and lay it across you lap with a friend helping run the drill.

Measure the thickness of the shaft just behind the ferrule, and extend that same diameter taper down about 18" to 20". Start with 100 grit paper, where the shaft starts to get thicker, and work your way down to 600 and 1200 paper.

Or you could spend 200 bucks on a "custom shaft" with an extended pro taper.

sell the cue you have and buy a meucci original on here or on ebay. If that dont work keep an eye on ebay for a predot shaft. Good luck

Red dot is what you are looking for... is the same as a pre-dot... The Black dot is a laminated shaft and while it is radially consistent it is not near as whippppppppy..........

Meucci whippines

I've got to agree, Meucci's hit from an original or a red dot is very similar... Both have a very similar taper. The ferrule material has changed a time or two, but that wasn't just the original to the red dot. So... cheapest way out, find a Meucci original or red dot shaft cue that's going for cheap and have at it...

Personally, my 97-27 that's in the W/FS forum, has two red dot shafts... one all original (never chalked) and one that has the ferrule and tip changed (personally, that made it playable for me).

I've also got an older Jimmy Rempe by Meucci JR-1 with the original shaft AND one with an even more extended taper from a friend of mine (with a triumph tip) that is REALLY sweet (love that extended taper)... I can interchange the original with the red dot shaft and really can't tell a difference.

Best of luck
