Guy shows me his cue the other night in league. It was a David Howard DH-2. First time I have had one of these cues in my hands. When I looked close at the points, they didnt look like real inlays. The inner points were very small(thin) and had a turn at the end. Looked like painted points to me. The pearl inlays had risen and I think thats normal for these cues...but I question the wood points if real or not.

Just curious. Whats the story on these old cues? I thought all old Meuccis had real wood inlay points. Now Im not so sure.

I don't remember what that model looks like but I'm sure if it has points, they are real either half/splice with veneers or inlayed. If they are half/spliced with veneers there may be a good chance that they came out different lengths and a pen or such was utilized to even them up and the guy had a bad night before and was a little shaky.

I have seen a few different looking star of David cues, or Little David Howard cues, and most of them looked real to me, except for one that someone decided to add some extra design work to the rings and, sharpied some extra red dashes into It. I'm pretty sure someone who owned the cue at one time did that though, because it looked Like It was added after the fact, but I could be wrong...

Nothing surprises me after finding the outer wide black veneers on a Mcdermott C-18 had been extended with paint, to make the points appear to line up evenly. After the touch up was sanded off the points had .5" or more variance between them. They were real of course, just doctored up, and I couldn't tell before I started the refinish.
Any mass produced production cue could possibly have the same thing.
But I do agree that the points certainly weren't painted on.
I do think there used to be some dude on Az named Buckwheat or something, that did stuff like that, but he must have gotten the boot.
