my friend just bought a 40 year old meucci
is there a link of the various vesions offered back then??
i dont have a pic since he wont let me photo it
im curious to know what model is it and he is curious whats it worth(ie did he pay too much..:grin:)

Well if it is 40 years old it really cuts down on what model it is.
What does it look like? It will be easy to tell if it is a production or custom.

Use the archive from budget cues, that other nice AZer's have posted.
It will help you identify the cue.

Your friend should let you take a photo of the cue, if he wants it identified & appraised.
Cue value varies with condition and rarity, but you probably already knew that.
So, that being said; If we don't know what it looks like, we can't identify it or appraise it.
We can ball park a price if you give us the model number. ;)

i know the guy he bought it ftom also had a meucci gambler which he sold several years ago
i will try to get some pics next weekend
will post them if successfull

Would have to be one of the first Meucci's. Bob Meucci did make cues even in the 60's but the Meucci company was not established till 1975 according to the website. What is his reluctance to letting you take a picture, is he afraid the cue is stolen?
 
Could of been one that went out the back door.

Could of been one that was supposed to get destroyed.
There was a problem with this in the early 1980's.
Could of been one made without Bob Meucci's knowledge.
This has happened..........

For real...if someone says they have a 40 year old Meucci, it is usually only 20 years old.:thumbup:

This is a true story. In 1976 I put on a tournament and Bob Meucci came and set up a display. The deal was I go 10% of all cue sales. He was a super salesman and must have sold like 50 or more cues over the weekend. Much of what he touted was how well made his cues were. He would take a cue and throw it at the floor tip first and it would bounce up and he would catch it.

Long story short, every cue had to be sent back to Meucci for repair or replacement or refund. Ferrules cracked, joint collars cracked, shafts and butts warped badly it was really embarrassing. It was evident that in the beginning they had no idea how to mass produce cues with any quality control.

It is hard to believe they survived the beginning years because Meucci's breaking or falling apart became an industry joke. I never sold another Meucci cue. Once I became a McDermott dealer their quality and prices were so good there was no reason to carry anything else. I did wheel and deal in cues buying and selling more high end cues and had a lot of used cues for sale, but only carried McDermott as a line.

this has been a long tradition with Meucci cues. It's nice to see a company carry on it's traditions thru the years.
To the Op-if he won't let you take a pic of the cue could it be a stolen cue?
 
the cue is not stolen
the guy he sold it to ive seen in the pool room for the 10 years ive lived in my town
hes had the cue the whole time
the guy he sold it to mentioned to me if i knew what it was worth
then proceeded to tell me that he had just bought it
MY curiosity made me start a thread to find out about the cue
i didnt ask at the time to take a pic of the cue
and he doesnt know i started this thread.....:o...:o....:o
when i see him next weekend ill ask him if i can take a pic

It's about 30 years old or less and $250-$450 depending on condition.
