Meucci opinion question......

First post here so be gentle.

When I was in the Air Force in the mid-late 90's I played alot in central New Jersey. I really loved the game but I guess other things took priority as I grew up. Anyway, my pride and joy was a Meucci HOF6, I knew it as the City Lights cue. Now I see it referred to as "Road Agent" I believe.

So, fast forward to present day and I want to pick up a quality cue and for old time sake, want to buy the same cue. I always thought Meucci was high end, top notch as far as production cues go. So I come here, and other forums to check out what's new and what I've missed and see Meucci getting bashed. Did something change? Quality control issues? What's the deal?

Thanks for any replies.

firstable welcome to the forums :)

in my opinion cues are just taste, it's like women, cars, etc... you'd see ppl having different women style, and different cars all the time, because each person has his own opinion & taste. For me I use custom cue made by Mike Gullyassy. and its just great. also I been using Cuetec, and they're good cues too.

If you trying to play casually, I'd go for a cue that is really good & not expensive. I can't suggest any to be honest, but check other threads created in teh past here, There was plenty of them with topic "Which cue is best" etc or something like that, you'll find out there that every poster has different opinion and brand name.

sorry also I can't talk about meucci, cause never used them.

Search the name Meucci and you will find quite a few threads dealing with this subject. I'd encourage you to do some research not only here, but elsewhere.

VERY briefly, by memory, most are of the opinion that Meucci cues quality has suffered severely since the 90s for a variety of reasons.

Early cues, labeled "Meucci Originals" on the butt sleeve seemed to be the most coveted and collectible. Later cues have simply "Meucci" in script on the butt.

The "Originals" version of the HOF6 was called the "Road Agent" or "City of Lights" cue as you already had heard of.

Meucci's play as good as any others!!!

WELCOME,

I've played with a ton of custom cues that cost thousands of dollars and Meucci's old and new are just fine and the one's I've bought recently seem to be consistant in quality as well. We all have opinions and this is mine. I've noticed alot of people here on the forum like to complain but that's their opinion. The new black dot shaft really plays sweet!

Goodluck!

I'm right there with you. I have about a dozen Meucci cues from the early to mid eighties and love them to death. After quite a long time off have heard the same things as you after coming back. Most common cause seems to be quality of materials , manufacturing and overall quality control.

Now having said that , I recently took a chance on a new unchalked late model (mid level) new meucci with the Black dot shaft in a trade deal.

IMO , quality looks quite good , materials adaquate for the cost of that cue and the feel and playability being actually quite good. In fact I've been using it in league since the night it show'd on my doorstep and have really suprised myself at how much I like it , especially after expecting the worse. In fact , I have all versions of predator shafts , a smart shaft and an OB1 on a number of other cues and would probably take the Black dot over them all at this point. Maybe just a hair over the OB but still.

So I don't know other than what I know. :) I guess we'll see how it holds up.

Jay.

Meucci is a cue to be proud of

Welcome. I love my old Meucci cue. I have a pre originals Crown Jewel with some ivory in it. For me the reason to want this cue was nostalgic...a mentor named Ed Gregory used one when I was a kid. Don't look to others for approval...if you want a Meucci for any reason, buy one. They play well and have beautiful style. I know Spanky is selling a road agent Meucci on e-bay right now. He is a reliable seller. His cue is stamped with an "Originals" name and the newer Meucci name in script. It is a unique butt cap on a classic Meucci cue. Check it out and enjoy. If you plan to resell, seek the collectability of the older originals model. It's just my opinion but those older classic shafts that pre-date the current low deflection movement and more enjoyable to use.

Thanks for the replies guys. I need to find a place around here to demo a bunch of different brands. I'm still partial to the Meucci, assuming I like the feel when I demo one.

Anyways, thanks for taking the time guys.

I've been a meucci lover for years (all of them). I finally went custom and while I've had NO problem handling games with a meucci it's much more consistent and actually easier with a custom cue. I use a custom Carolina Cue and love it. The best I could get out of a meucci though was the originals. Originals was the best, red dot second best, and black dot last horrid-ugh-dont-use-it-best.

I still use my muecci (red dot) sneaky as my regular player because I still haven't found a cue that I like better. That includes vikings, predator, viking butt with predator shaft, mcdermott(I like mcdermott too!) and a few others. I'm sure a lot has to do with weight, shaft and butt dimensions but the feel and control is beautiful.

I had a PP-2 with a balck dot shaft. Beautiful cue! Simply gorgeous BUT the first shaft had to be replaced and it took months from meucci. The second shaft looked better and (of course) had more layers but felt dead. The original shaft(28 layers) was amazing as far as the amount of spin I could put on the ball and the lack of deflection. It was an amazing shaft... until it started splintering.

I sold the cue with the new shaft to someone I know, he loved the cue. He was kind of disappointed when the black ring on the shaft just fell off! Seriously, wtf?!?! I hope he got that fixed.

My whole point here is that meucci has gone downhill in quality and their customer service is very questionable. I wouldn't buy ANYTHING from Meucci at this point, but they DID make a beautiful cue at one time. It's a damn shame they have gone to crap.
