Meucci Originals...tread cautiously...!!!

it's too bad but I have personally had many of these same type of quality issues with both the meucci's I have in my store and the one's that I have personally owned. I had to send the last meucci in five times due to warped shafts, bad inlays, and finish flaws. To date, the cue is still not perfect as it should be for a cue that retails for over $800.00. As a dealer, my advice is to spend the money on a good custom or more reputable company. I have had great luck and customer service with both Mcdermott and Viking as well as Schon. Hell, even predator has taken better care of me and I've heard a million bad stories involving them.... JMO....

all of the cue makers out there and your gonna buy a custom cue from meucci?? thats wut u get i guess lol

On September 1, 2005, I purchased a Meucci Original Custom Cue (Model BMC-1i) which was being promoted on Meucci's web-site. I spec'd out several customizations, including cue length, shaft diameter, and weight...all of this was done via a direct phone call with Bob Meucci and his daughter jointly discussing, and ultimately confirming, the order.
When the cue arrived (3 weeks later than promised), there were a number quality issues, including an incorrect overall length of the cue (+ 3/16"), a noticeable imperfection (depression in the wood) on one (1) shaft, the diameter taper dimensions were NOT as Bob Meucci personally quoted, and last, but not least...the promoted BMC Custom cue which was to be signed, dated, and numbered by Bob Meucci himself was, in fact, NOT signed, dated, or numbered...!!! This element alone speaks volumes about the lack of attention to detail, not to mention the fact that it nullifies the commercial value of a "Meucci Original".
Now, after discussing these concerns by phone directly with Bob Meucci, and confirming said conversation with an E_Mail, I agreed to "try" the cue, but with the open option to return the cue for a refund of the original price minus a 15% re-stocking fee...ultimately, the cue was returned and delivery confirmation received via UPS on October 13th.
However, upon inquiring by phone about my refund on October 27th (two (2) full weeks after it had been returned/received at Meucci), Bob Meucci's story now is that he won't refund any of my $$$$ until he "sells the customized cue", a condition that he absolutely NEVER brought into any prior communications...and, as of this writing (November 5th), Meucci not only has the returned cue, but he's still holding my $$$$.
So, AZ Billiards Forum readers...what do you think and do you have any creative ideas about how I might "accelerate the process of my promised refund" short of costly legal action...????
P.S. In the meantime, I'd highly recommend that you look elsewhere if you're in the market for a custom cue with redeeming quality of workmanship and lasting commercial value (particularly if you prefer NOT to deal with irresponsible, unreliable service and integrity issues from the manufacturer).

Just a note of advice

All you guys that are going to prosecute someone. First off,
it won't be marshalls, it will be Deputy Fife with you.
And when you decide to do something, you better have
plenty of WRITTEN DOCUMENTATION to substantiate your
claims. Anyone that has been through a divorce can tell
you that. I am familiar with similiar claims as I was
Payroll Supervisor for a major corporation for 5 years
with over 5,000 employees, and we got garnishments
all the time on employees. Plus, my big bud is an attorney.
Plus, I have been through 4 divorces (only 3 women though).

I have heard for years that Meucci cues had really went downhill. I purchased a meucci se-14 when they first became available. Now I know its not a custom, but it did arrive in perfect condition. Even though it did cost an extra $50 to get it signed by Meucci. Probably wouldn't purchase another current Meucci, but still love the one I have now.

Just had to put my 2 cents in...

Check this thread out, it has more complaints about Meucci:

And also check this link which I posted in the other thread also:

http://www.waynesthisandthat.com/billiards.htm#nightmare

It's unfortunate that you could not see the 2nd link, or the 1st for that matter, before you decided to do business with Meucci. Lucky for me, I saw the 2nd link before I decided to purchase one, and let me tell you, I'm sure glad I did. The shaft that I had felt at the local poolhall who'd had a few for sale felt like sandpaper, it was awful.

Clearly you're just another in a long line of people who've been absolutely screwed by this guy. Bob Meucci is a crook. And to think I was considering paying 800 bucks for a Meucci I liked. I have to say it was much better spent on a Rick Howard cue.

And I don't think there's any way in hell you should've even settled for returning minus a restocking fee since clearly what you got was glorified firewood. There is no reason for him to hold on to your money just because he made a crap cue and you sent it back to him because it was crap. What a friggin' dirtbag.

> Like so many others, when I first started playing recreational pool, all I heard was about how great Meucci cues were supposed to be. I bought a used one at first,a plain birdseye with a solid white wrap and black collars,at the time the absolute base model had no logo on it. I eventually custom ordered a 2 point 84-4 model. It was eventually replaced with a blue stained European. That one was replaced with an OL-5 that was originally made for Jim Rempe, but was sent back for whatever reason, and I wound up with it. Even though I was just playing as a diversion from my guitar, football, and teenage hijinks,I was always serious about trying to play better, just for personal satisfaction, same as playing Flight Of The Bumblebee. I knew then that the materials were substandard. I was not breaking anywhere near as well or as hard as I do now,not playing 40 hours a week, and was still cracking ferrules. I eventually cracked the joint collar on the 84-4,hence the sale and replacement. I was eventually replacing ferrules every 10 days. They also tended to melt because of the friction from the cloth at times. The weight bolt would occasionally come loose, causing that annoying "tink". I eventually discovered the original Aegis thanks to Bill McDaniel, and never went back to the crappy stuff Bob used. One of the first times I ever went to High Pockets in Memphis,it was a Saturday, and this guy I had seen at the poolroom in town had just went to the factory and picked out his own cue,a JR-5 Rempe model, which at the time sold for 550 and he paid full retail for it. He bumped balls around for a few minutes, and upon breaking the first rack with it,all 4 points fell out on the table, literally came right thru the finish and fell out,as if they were held in with spit and friction. It looked like you had the points in the left side breast pocket in a dress shirt, with no top on it,and they fell out like your inkpen and smokes would. He Scotch-Taped the points together, left without paying his time, and went back for a refund, which oddly enough he got, thanks to an employee that explained to Bob that he truly was in there earlier that day. Apparently Bob was confronted directly and knew nothing about the sale, and was trying to claim that the cue wasn't under warranty because the cue couldn't have been bought that day, therefore Bob didn't know if the cue was abused thus voiding any claim to a warranty. The employee said yes I sold the cue to him earlier,it has less than 1 hour's play on it,and here's your money, which Bob didn't already have in his pocket. The guy I bought my Rempe from was another good employee of a bad company. Bob would get in a bind, and decide to bleed cash out of payroll, constantly running himself and thus everyone else short. If he owed you 400 in payroll,to quote his first-hand explanation,Bob would pay you 250,and tell you to pick 2-3 cheaper cues out of the "finished" bins, and go sell them to make your money back, and whatever profit you made over that was yours, but there were also cases where he tried to take a cut or all of that if nicer cues were involved. This was apparently rampant there in the late 80's/early 90's,as this guy was there for close to 8 years. I got that cue, which sold for 850 at the time with 4 really nice shafts for 300,and eventually sold it for 20 because I didn't have room in my 2x4 case for it,my new Schon, and my break cue. Basically the cues had better overall workmanship in most cases back then, but were hampered by crappy materials. Now the workmanship has gone to absolute crap, compounded by maybe even worse materials, horrible dealer/consumer relations, dwindling fan base,a huge 'Net buzz about these factors, and possible financial ruin. I wonder if he runs his horse business the same shady way? This is really a shame too. He made a hefty contribution to the game, something he/we should be proud of,and something he should have a desire to maintain,as opposed to cutting off the head of the goose that laid the golden egg. Do not buy a Meucci made since around 1995. Period. (See linked threads in an earlier post.)

That said, I had a 1975-ish plain jane cocobolo Meucci Original that played great.

This sort of thing is why credit card companies offer chargeback privileges. Item not as described. Charge reversed. Vendor sends his carrier to pick up his POS at his expense within 30 days, or it's considered abandoned property.

It's probably too late to file in your case, though.

Why buy a Meucci? Why spend $2,000 on a custom glorified tree branch? Because people do what they like.

I have a Schon and a Meucci Original Sneaky. I break with the Schon because I feel that is all it's good for. I play with my Meucci Original. I will say I do feel the Original is better than the newer Meuccis. But Johnny Archer uses a Scorpion. Allison Fischer plays with a Cuetec. I watch Cliff Joyner play with a Meucci. And they all could beat the living crap out of me and 90% if not 100% of the people on here consistantly with a Valley bar cue.

So wether you like Meucci or not is the same as wether you like Chevy or Ford. It's just what you like.
