O.K. I'm out of the closet. I really like Mootchies. Problem is I can't shoot with them because of the lacquered wrap. Does anybody know how to get rid of the lacquer without ruining the value or beauty of the stick?

Can you go into detail of this perceived value and beauty you speak of?

Beauty is always perceived. Value is what I can get for it if I blow my case money.

If you really like meucci's look into getting a Meucci Original, those guys dont have the lacquer wrap. And can be found on Ebay often.

Whoa!!!! Hold on before you spend your money!!! Many many year's worth of Meucci Originals had the wrap finished. Ask before you buy.

Get a rewrap. Some cuemaker will simply charge for a rewrap job. Some will charge for more.

Be warned: if your cue wrap already is finished, then the wrap groove will be deeper than a normal wrap cue. A newly pressed linen wrap may not line up like you expect it.

What Meucci cue do you have?

These are my tools :

1. Meucci Freshman 1- red dot- moori mIII tip

2. Meucci Jim Rempe- moori mIII tip

3. I shoot with a Joss 109-moori mIII tip

4. I break with a Mcdermott Ed2 -with a compressed linen tip and
three oz. of machined brass added to the butt

I want to shoot the Rempe but the wrap drives me nuts especially when my hands sweat a little and if my hands aint sweatin' a little I aint havin' fun.

You could try Ken at www.cuegrip.com he does some very nice work, he is just completing a cobra skin wrap for me.
Dave Mackay; I e-mailed cuegrip on your recommendation to get an estimate.
Thanks for your help. George

For anyone who hassn't seen the Meucci Collectors thread, here it is:

A lot of us collectors and players started off with Meucci's. They are one of he most popular brand of cues ever made.

As far as a coated wrap, my suggestion is to go for a complete refinish and re-wrap with Scot Sherbine or Mike Webb. What they'll do is turn the cue to remove the wrap. Then they'll build up the wrap groove if necessary to the proper depth so the wrap is level to the surrounding surfaces. You should ask for a quote first but I would estimate about $125 to $150.

The alternative of messing around with trying to sand off the clear will leave you with a sanded, too-hard wrap, a lot of marks on your cue, and a lot of wasted time.
