Has anyone used this break cue and what do they think of it?

I am searching for a new break cue at the moment and would like some good advice from all you AZB members on which one to buy.

I am playing on the IPT so the phenolic tips are of no use to me.

Many thanks in advance for your repsonse.

I beleive the Jerico Stingers have (or will have) a leather tip model.

Also there are plans for a leather tip version of the x breaker as well.

Never tried the Mezz though.

I don't remember where, but I thought I heard really good things about the Mezz PB2. Might have been on here, might have been elsewhere.

One interesting thing about it is that it's 4 inches shorter (the butt) than a playing cue. Presumably they figure that is an advantage for breaking somehow, but I don't know the reasoning behind it.

I've tried the Mezz PP2, it's short yes and that's why it feels a little bit weird. Also, it's as stiff as an crowbar. I think if I'd start using one, I'd need to change my breaking style quite a lot...

I just bought the new X Breaker at thee VF Expo and it dosent have the penolic tip. I love it and and everyone I let try it said it is the best thing they have ever used. A lot of the pros that play on the IPT are now useing it. You can get it here http://www.beadsandbilliards.com/ under jumbreak cues, This is another site that might help you decide also. http://www.xtremebilliard.com/ Good Luck, Doug

Doug,

Thank you for mentioning the X Breaker. But the Xtreme tip, although it is not phenolic, is still not allowed on the IPT. They only allow leather tip.

We will have a new IPT shafts for all the players who have chosen to break with a X Breaker on the IPT. It will feature a leather tip but still has the advantage because of the Xtreme technology. I will announce the details later when it is ready.

Thank you for choosing the X Breaker.

Did you try the one with the black phenolic tip with the white pad and an adjustable weight system at the jump break joint?

I am not sure if that was the PP2, but I know it was the latest Mezz Powerbreak, which was what I tried in Japan.

Mezz also had another version at regular 58" long that I did not try. I think it was also their latest model.

Mezz, in my opinion, is a very innovative company with very good work ethnic. They are always trying to come up with new products and invention, some of which are very innovative.

I think workmanshipwise they are also top notch. In my opinion, they are not any inferior than any production company in the US.

I am sorry I cannot really remember how the break felt. I remember I made a fool out of myself with the shorter version as I totally lost my timing and almost poke someone with it.

A lot of people have posted very good feedback of the Mezz powerbreak, and it is quite popular in Asia.

Hope this helps.

This got me thinking... why DID they shorten it 4 inches? So rather than sit here speculating I just google'd Mezz Cues and found their writeup, which is:

"Developed according to a revolutionary concept that is the fruit of extensive research on the full-power break stroke, the "Power Break II" was designed and manufactured for optimal shape and balance as a break cue.

By making the butt portion of the PBII approximately 4 inches shorter than the average break cue, Mezz has made it possible to reduce the amount of deflection and distortion that occurs at the time of impact. This keeps the power of the player's stroke from escaping and transfers it directly to the cue ball.

In addition, Mezz has also developed and incorporated a unique weight adjustment system (2-Way Weight Balance System) whereby the weight and balance of the cue can be fine-tuned to suit the individual, not merely by changing the weight bolt in the butt, but by also adjusting weight rings located at the top of the grip."

Got it here:

I owned a Mezz PB2 for a couple weeks (took it in a multiple cue deal). I ended up selling it before I even tried it myself. It looked like a well constructed cue.

I jump/break with an X-Breaker and like it very much.

I have had a Pete Ohman (Omen Cues) cue for about 2 years now. It is his jump break model. I have never been more satisfied in a cue. It came with a Phenoic tip, but he can put whatever you want on there. I just got a second shaft so that I could have a leather tip and a phenolic tip in the case. I think for a leather break tip, the black WB brand water buffalo tip (single layer) is the best by far. Great control, excellent speed, minimal maintenance. Be sure to have your tip guy compress it in a vice before putting it on-it saves you 100 breaks or so of compress, mushroom, trim, compress, etc.

Pete Ohman is awesome by the way. Very good customer service and a nice guy to talk to. Really stands behind his product.

At the Valley Forge expo, I purchased one of the X-Breaker cues. I really like it, but it is currently being fixed. I think once I get it back it will be a very good break cue as well. However, it has an IPT-illegal tip. I know he will make a leather tip version. Again, I recommend the black water buffalo tip.
