i am thinking of buying a mezz cue and am wondering about the shafts they give with their cues, there are quite a few different shafts, i am looking for some opinions on what shaft is the best deflection wise, hit wise and for reaction of the cue ball. thanks.

Hit is always personal, since I always play with 'normal' shafts i prefer the hit of the Mezz Standard Maple shafts.
As for the deflection, the order from most to least deflection is:
Standard Maple Shaft, Hybrid Alpha, WD700, Hybrid Pro II.
The Hybrid Pro II will give you a little more cueball action then the others.
If you want the least amount of deflection the HPII is the way to go,
the WD700 ist probably the best compromise between hit, action and deflection.
The quality of the shaftwood has no equal in any production cue.

If you like low LD shafts and are used to playing with one, then you would probably like either the hybrid or WD.
I dont play with a LD shaft, but I really liked the Alpha shaft. Mika explained to me that it would be a easier transition to the Alpha if you are used to a regular shaft and if you play with a predator or ob then the hybrid or wd are good choices.

I'm a snooker convert now contemplating a Mezz SA model (standard maple shaft) with piloted joint, EC with WD700 and united joint or AXI model with WD700 and wavy joint. I've met a Japanese pro here who likes the latter, but I wonder if I might be happy with the SA as I also like a normal shaft. Do you have a Mezz SA model? How do you think it would compare with the cheaper cues made by say, Joss and Viking? I hear Joss are very good in the 200-300 price range. I'm pretty sure I'd like any of them more than the meucci I'm currently using, it has too much buzz in the butt for long power shots.
