I'm a relatively young and new player. Just trying to find what shaft suits me best. I've been playing with a 314-2 recently, but a lot of my friends that are better than me are using smaller diameter shafts. I realize that you don't need a smaller diameter shaft to be a good player, but I'm thinking it will help my game out.

I have tried a Z2 before and it just felt too small for my liking. I feel like the WX900 might just be the perfect shaft, just would like to hear some feedback from those of you who have used the shaft or could just give me some general advice.

Thanks!

I don't think those mm in shaft diameter are the real problem. I' m playing with a Z2 now, and played with a 314/2 in past. 314/2 is easy to play, with Z2 you have to concentrate more.

If you don't have a LD shaft, WX900 is a good choice, but if you have a 314/2, stay with it.

I have a shaft from William Dominiak. He calls it a D3. Mine is 12.5. My standard player is the Z2, but I could easily switch to the D3. You might also consider looking at the Katana, to me it plays a lot like the Z2 but is a little bigger.

From my experience playing with a small diameter shaft will allow you to put «more english» on the ball more easy, but it's harder to control. I've played with z2, ob2, ob pro, I3, gcore at 11.75, 314 down to 11.75, all maple at 11 & 11.7, etc. But I started to try thicker shafts and I definitely play more consistent with 12.25 to 12.75 shafts.

Besides Corey Deuel and Mike Davis I cant recall another pro using shafts below 12mm. So you can start by listing the pros using skinnier shafts and ask yourself why they do not use shafts below 12 mm.

I have to say that skinnier shafts IMHO causes less cue ball squirt so you can shoot straighter with more english. If I was going to say something, i'd say stay with thicker shafts, just my , opinion.

If a Z2 felt too small, so will a Mezz WX900 shaft.

For a beginner would you advise the wx700 or wx900? My mezz axi is being ptoduced now, but still thinking about the right shaft for me. I'm relatively new to the gamr

the wx900 is a great shaft, shot with it last night, a friend got a new mezz cue with it and let me tried it out, forst time hitting with a mezz, the hype is true, great cue. highly recommend it, I will be getting one in the future. Ive been an advocate for schon, mezz is right there with them, if not a notch above because of their shafts. except that their pins are weird.

another option you can look at is having a billiards shop shave down your 314-2 into something a little smaller. You can't do to dramatic changes tho because the ferrule will get to weak. If your currently playing with 13mm or 12.75mm you could have someone take it down to 12.50mm and that should be a pretty good medium ground to start with. Also the Mezz products are quite spendy but if that's what your heart is set on go for it. Best of luck with your decision.

Some people can really tell about that .25

Or so they say.

I play with an 11.3mm shaft from Keith Hanssen often.

Best shaft out there for me. Period.

Use what feels good. There is no "magical" shaft that can make up for an inconsistent stroke. Find what you like, and work on in proving your fundamentals! I can only speak for myself and I prefer 12.5mm.

Imo small diameter allows more action on the cueball. If u want more consistency in your game you should play with larger diameter. Because most shots missed are due to lack of focus, too much english, draw or follow, because if u use small diameter shafts, u will have to focus more. Most taiwanese pros here only play 13mm above.

This is worded great, I couldn't agree more.

Very nice shaft, sux that it`s not available in 30" length tho...

Iam using the WX900 and it does come in a 30 in I Have 2 :) its is a great shaft IMO. Comparible to or even better then the Z2 which is all I have to compare it too. Ive only played with that and an I3 from McDermott. WX900 is my favorite to date
