I'm considering a new cue (Mezz AXi-603) and would like input on the difference between the Mezz United joint with the SS collar and the Mezz Wavy joint with the Aegis collar.

What's the difference in feel between the two? I'm going to assume the United joint with SS collar gives a firmer hit over the Wavy joint with Aegis collar.

Is one better than the other as far as construction? All input gets a thanks in advance.

I don't have access to test hit these cues otherwise I would.

I would say united joint gives a firmer hit but very slightly indeed. It is really hard to tell. May be it is more a mental thing. The joint collar does make a difference, stainless steel joint collar will give a firmer hit. Construction wise, both joint systems will last a life time, thread will stay tight even after years of use.

AXI-603 is a good choice. If you decide you like it firmer, you can always match it with a Hybrid Pro II or Hybrid Alpha shaft.

I would agree with that. Steel collar do ping sharper. For me wenge or purpleheart wood for wavy joint do ping as good.

My Mezz Axi 604 with a wavy joint and hybrid Pro II

I just bought a used Mezz Axi 604 last week with a wavy joint and a hybrid pro II shaft, and the hit is stiff and straight. It`s a great player, all I did on that cue is changed the tip for a Brown Kamui Soft.....a much better feel now.

I never test a SS joint, but I would thing the hit would be stiffer.

Good luck with your Mezz cue.

Thanks for the replies, sorry if this topic has been beat like a dead horse.
It's just good to get fresh recent input. I have used the search function and got some good background also.

most united joint would give you more forward balance because of the shaft having an insert.

United joint + implex = too much energy (I play w/ EC7-WKK). It could be very difficult to control the cue ball in the begining. Takes some time to get used to it. I don't know about SS but I think for control play the Wavy would be the best choice. If you like action on the cb you can go w/ united joint.

hi

I had an old Ec-7 mezz with maple shaft and wavy joint, it was amazing cue. Later I tried new sneaky with WX700 and united joint and for some reason I love the old one more.

Have both, and I am a huge fan of big pins on customs but I have to say when it comes to MEZZ I love their United joint hit. Nice firm sharp feedback, at least when it comes to my Sneaky. Either way both joints produce a great tight fit and great hit/feel.

I had a WX900 wavy joint and now playing with WD700 (oldWX700) with SS joint. I preferred the softer feel of the WX900. The WD700 plays a bit too crisp for my taste. I regret selling that WX900 shaft. damn!

Like some of the others, I too prefer the Wavy joint. This is why I'm selling my EC7-CMT and keeping my Axi-N.

I prefer the Wavy joint feel.
While comparing the 2, both were very good with a firm and crisp hit (WD700 shaft, kamui black med) but I felt more feedback with Wavy J, kind of "one-piece cue" feel.

I finally got the Mezz SP in cocobolo, and ask Mezz to put a Wavy joint on it (+90€)!
I'm very happy with the result.

Adding to the revival of this thread, I ordered the AXi 605 yesterday. This cue comes with the softer hitting Wavy joint and the Kamui soft tip on the Mezz WX700 shaft. Here's a pic I found on the net:
