Has anyone heard anything about Michael Coltrane(sp?) lately? Last I heard he was having the problem with his hands shaking and couldn't play much. Is there anything new?
 
He still plays in local tournaments around here (Raleigh), but he spends most of his time working with his Dad and traveling down to Wilmington to be with his girlfriend. He does have a severe shake, much worse than Varner's. He still hits 'em great, though, but I think he's decided that it's just not worth it economically to be doing all the traveling and spending the money that playing pro tournaments requires. If he had a sponsor, though, who knows.... I think he's one of the nicest guys I've ever met, and I wish there were something which could be done about his condition, but there isn't, so he's just working with the cards he was dealt. BTW, I'm pretty sure it's spelled Coltrain, not Coltrane.

Too bad for Choo Choo.
I saw him a lot in the defunct PBT back in the mid-90's.
He had a stroke that made you drool. Absolutely beautiful stroke.
He had a great game. One night at Hard Times, World Champion Rodulfo Luat gave him the 7-ball. It wasn't even close. Choo Choo ran over Luat like a freight train.
He had a great showing in the world 8-ball at the Riviera the year Bustamante won it. He placed 3rd-4th.

i've seen a player or two with some nasty shakes, and people in other careers who you would think be incapacitated as a result of such "handicaps"....but it seems the shakes occur when the hand is relatively still,,,but movement tends to alleviate the shakes, so the preformance is never REALLY affected.
 
Michael Coltrain is not only a straight-shooting son of a biscuit, but he's a stand-up guy, and I'm proud to call him my friend.

Have to agree the "Train" is a stand up guy and I still believe he will find the right neurologist to put him on some medication that will alleviate the shakes. Mike, good luck in the future, keep trying, your friend always, Humphrey :cool:
 
I last saw Michael at the Mid Atlantic tournament that Brday put on in virginia. From what he told me the Dr's in carolina that he was seeing gave him no hope. i believe what he told me it was called is something like
"FOCAL TASK SYNDROME" or something to that effect and there is no apparent cure for it.. He is 1 hell of a nice guy and was on his way to being a top player before this happened. Hopefully some day they will find a cure for it and he can get back to some normalcy.........................mike
 
My grandfather had a severe problem with shaking hands and he could shoot a hand gun like no one else! We used to say he shot between the shakes. No one could figure out how he did it. Some people have the ability to adapt incredibly well.
 
there is a guy that used to play on the same league team as me... actually he was and still is the captain of this team .... he shakes all the time and when he plays you can especially tell it ... we'd play another team and you could always hear someone commenting on the shaky guy ..... anyway he is a strong player shakes and all ... It really doesn't seem like it effects his game all that much
