Midsize Smith lathe or Cue Companion?

Ok, i have the money now to buy a lathe. Only one problem, i have no idea what one to get. Please let me know if my facts are incorrect.

Cue companion: I need the level three to hold the butt of the cue? Also to do shafts i will need to take the shaft off and move it to the oppisite side of the head stock? For those of you with the CC, is that a pain? Can the CC taper shafts or butts? And, is the tip centering tool and tip shaper really work?

Midsize Smith: Am i getting everything the cc level three with the midsize or do i need to spend more cash on upgrades?

Anything else i should know? Thanks,

That is easy ...

The Unique Cue Companion is a cue REPAIR lathe.

The Hightower Cue Smith is a cue MAKING lathe.

What do you intend to use it for?

Yes the orignal full size cue smith and the deluxe lathe are cue building lathes. But the mid size is designed to be a repair lathe. But yes it can build a cue....

As of right now i'd just be doing some repairs. I have heard from several people who have said that once you start doing repairs building is just around the corner. LOL.

I want something that is easy. I really dont want to have to do a lot of moving this or switching that.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Better get used to doing just that. Without multiple machines dedicated to certain tasks, lots of time can be spent going from one task to another. Good luck.

I have owned both at one point in time, You can't taper shafts or butts with the cc but you can add a router and taper bars with the Hightower lathe. I would save untill I had enough to buy the deluxe cutsmith it seems you will be upgrading any way so you might as well get it all in one shot. I use a cc in our pool room for repairs for the simple fact it's small comapact and does every repair job I need to do. Also It's very portable for working tourneys. You can make sneakies from pre made cue parts or house cues but thats about the extent of it. Hope this helped

both of them are good repair machine

but if you want make cue , I think Deluxe Cue Smith
and Unique Cue Maker are good choice

Is the CC able to hold a butt? Since it's a repair lathe it definitely holds the shaft, but what about the butt?

they both hold the butt sure. your case holds the butt . your hand also holds the butt.

only one had the cutting capability to do anything while holding the butt. that would be the midsize

If you plan on making cues, nothing is easy and it gets really expensive as you go on. Welcome to the rabbit hole
