Mighty x drill leaving mark on cloth

I think it does affect play, but not in a physical way, it gives a visual aid. A kind of guide line. I use to play snooker at a friends house growing up. He was lucky enough to have a father who was a coach and had a table in the garage. Had some of my highest breaks on that table, and I always attributed it to using the lines which resulted from hours of him coaching students as an assist. Certainly played better on his Riley than I ever did on the Burrough & Watts at the club my dad plays at.
Been at this 40+ yrs and have never heard anyone say that burn-marks were a aiming/playing aid. Where do people get this stuff??

You can't see how these lines running from corner pocket to corner pocket could be used to aim? Okay....

Years ago, when trying JoeyA's 'power stroke drill' I wore bad tracks into the cloth and
eventually just had to replace the cloth..... AND the cueball. lol

I would say, variability is the answer. JMHO

On a snooker table/chinese-8 table, the wear marks certainly make the table play differently, as it creates channels in the nap. As a teenager, those lines did me a world of good.

I'm not sure it's a burn mark. What chalk are you using? Are you sure you can't clean it off? I strongly suspect the "lines" you are seeing are residual chalk lines. Maybe use a lightly damp cloth and try to wipe the table down?

The are a couple reasons I'm suggesting it's not a burn mark: 1) I've done thousands of shots on the mighty X (sometimes 500 in one session) and I don't have those lines on my table [Simonis 860 Tournament Blue; Taom]. 2) burn marks are from harder shots where the ball is generally hopping down the table. You shouldn't be hitting the mighty X any where near that hard.

I just found this thread - want to ask if there's any particular cleaner you use?

I shoot the Mighty-X drill everyday (less than 100 shots max), and noticed a definitive line pattern starting to show up. Replaced my table cloth just a couple months ago for other reasons but on the new cloth, it's starting to show up again. I have Simonis 860 HR Tournament Blue, paired with Taom blue chalk (Pyro/V10) and I clean my balls on a weekly basis. I use the Simonis X-1 Cleaner immediately after every Mighty-X drill (daily) and also use a pool table cleaning solution (Quick Clean) along the line area as well.

My hypothesis was that the line was predominantly due to the draw shots, b/c the tip contacts the table so I've tried to stop doing the draw shots on a daily basis, however even the regular stop & follow shots contribute to the line showing up so I want to see if there's something else I can adjust!

This has happened to my new table too.
Has anyone used this "method" to create either Grid Lines or the interior box on their table vs, drawing them?

Seems to me the simplest fix (if one's needed) is to lose the donuts and position the balls on a slightly differently line to the pocket each time.

pj <- Shirley I'm not the first to suggest it...?

I helped the mark out, I used a new MarksaLot & made a 5 foot X in the middle of the table. It helped in placement of the balls & didn't look bad at all. In fact it looked "ON PURPOSE".....

I don't think you need any marks (or donuts) - just line the balls up with the pocket by eye, not always on the same line.

I'm a big fan of the mighty x drill (long straight stop, draw, and follow shots across the diagonals of the table). I put donut stickies on the cloth to ensure the balls are lined up straight.

After shooting a few hundred shots over a few days, I've noticed a faint white streak starting to appear on the cloth, right along the diagonal lines where I'm doing the drill. this isn't chalk and I can't get rid of it using the table cloth brush. I'm pretty sure it's a burn mark.

Has anyone else run into this issue doing drill shots along a consistent line on the table? and if there might be some way to prevent this?
Pretty sure it was Bert Kinister that did the original mighty x video. Check out his table.

I have very visible lines from the X drill.

I can get them to almost disappear by concentrated vacuuming with a ShopVac.

I have had zero issues vacuuming my cloth. It’s 860 I have for decades. Simonis is damned robust.

if you're using hole reinforcement stickers, the coating on the paper rubs off onto the cueball and transfers to the table.

i learned this lesson the hard way by using colored stickers, which left yellow and blue X lines on a table at the pool hall :(
