Last week I would have agreed with you. But not after watching Mike at this tournament. He looks very comfortable. Mika and Johnny are definitely the two favorites in this tournament but Mike and Charlie and Cohen are right there. Watch out for Daya, See, Ortmann and Eberle. So many great players still in the event!
I watched that match last night, it was great run! He got great postition on every break ball. Only got in trouble 2 or 3 times, and hit a few nice combos! Can't wait to see the SVB/Mika 10 ball match in a few days!
Was there a hand shake after the match?
yes......and sigel was pissed
He missed the 1 ball right after the break, the 1 was a couple feet from the pocket, the cueball about 8 inches or so off the end rail, not quite straight in. That's as best as I can remember at least. Not an easy shot, but a shot Mike should definitely make if he's in the right mental state to take the match.
It was actually the 5-ball that he missed.

a recurring theme in this tourney is; miss and you may not get another chance. lots of high runs right from the beginning.

If it makes you feel any better I once saw Efren miss a two foot stop shot straight into the side pocket with ball in hand.
Yes, it was the 5 ball. It was not at all "routine". Just making the ball was pointless. He needed to make it with a very firm stroke to get something to move in the stack. Very little angle and nothing else in the clear to shoot at next. I thought it was closer to the end rail than 8 inches but could be wrong about that.
If you've seen Sigel's 150 out against Mike Zuglan...this was almost the exact same shot.
And the pockets on the tables were plenty big - probably 4 3/4 and with the new cloth were quite easy. The "tv" table with all the hot lights above was probably moderately tougher than the rest.

You might very well be right about the cueball being closer to the end rail, especially considering that it was right after the break. I do think I remember that Sigel could make a comfortable bridge though, maybe out from the corner pocket.
Sigel's 150 and out against Zuglan is still the prettiest 150 ball run I've ever seen.
He also opened up with 135 against Dave Daya before missing a shot off the point of the side pocket. If he doesn't miss that shot I think he would have went 200 and out, given that on his next turn at the table he went 65 and out.
The more I watched him play, the more I think I'm going to start drawing all my breakshots back to the headstring. You'll have a longer shot, but 99% of the time you will have a shot. It seems you can control the cueball better that way.
