Yesterday at Corner Billiards, I saw Mika Immonen in the flesh for the first time. I realize that's probably not a big deal to many of you, but for me it was the first time ever seeing such a great player in person rather than on TV. It was both very cool... ... and humbling... :o ... to see the absolute mastery that Mika has over a table! Somehow it was so much more impressive to see him playing up close like that...

That is all, carry on...

Hey, thanks for the pic! :D

I've been a fan of Mika since I saw his taped match against Efren in the Accu-Stats 8-Ball Invitational. Although Efren won, I thought Mika looked very solid at the table. I know there are plenty of players who can beat Mika (including Efren in that match), but that was the best 8-ball I'd ever seen and it left a lasting impression on me!

Besides, I didn't see Karen Corr at Corner Billiards, did I? No, I saw Mika Immonen. If I'd seen Karen Corr, I'd be talking about her instead -- so there!!! :p

Have you seen the Griffis/Reyes matchup from that event (not the playoff) ? That's a great match too.

he's smooth, ain't he.........very inspiring. i have to douse myself with cold water after watching him play:)

I saw mika play 2 years ago at the espn zone seven ball tournamet. He lost in the first round to alex, but i could tell he was a really great player, He stays down on all of his shots and has a great follow thru. I saw the accu stats 8ball with him and efren that was a great match! he never missed a ball and still lost! But Efren is my favorite player so that was cool with me!! The bottom line is Mika is a Great player and he will win his share of tournaments!!!!

I saw Corey keep him in his chair at the 2002 US Open just after Mika won the world title in Cardiff. 11 to zip. Just goes to show ya, It's who is on top of their game on any given day. Thats not to say they both arn't great players.

Crispyfish, you'll be surprised how friendly the pros are. You could have well aproached him for a short interview or just chit-chat - and that would have really made your day. Mika is really friendly. Quite timid and very pleasant.

Even the infamous Earl the Pearl is quite a friendly fellow. On TV, he can really be obnoxious, but in person, he's quite a nice person. He just turns into a monster during competition.

That's why it's really nice to hang around during tournaments.

That's great to hear. I wanted to go say hi to him, but he was practicing straight pool at the time and I didn't want to break his concentration. Though I suppose if he really wanted privacy, he'd be practicing somewhere less exposed. Maybe next time I'll be less considerate. ;)

I really admire people who are at the top of their game but still down to earth. I think a friendly, sportsmanlike attitude is very important, but unfortunately not as common as it should be...

Mika has become one of my favorite players as well. I saw him play in Taiwan, and all everyone can say was, "what a powerful stroke!"

One shot Mika made was simply amazing: 1 ball hanging in the corner pocket, cue ball 6 inches behind the line on the opposite side. Mika drew the cueball back to the head rail with bottom right, and came out 2 rails to the center.

The commentators (who tend to understate, unlike their ESPN counterparts) were left speechless.

im also a big fan of the guy, ive seen him in person before when he participated in the cafe puro challenge here. i just like the way he plays pool, and he is fun to talk to.

Watched Mika run 9 straight racks in Orlando. Well, I actually only saw the last 3. The first 6 were on a different table. But, gee, all his shots were short ones with a little angle. Anybody could do that if you had those shots.

He's friendly and has a lot of fun playing.

I have watched and met quite a few pros over the past 5 years and all of them are friendly and outgoing and willing to talk with anybody. Well, maybe all the pros but one.

Jake---don't bite on it.

Nah - I promised to be good. Besides, he has some really big friends. LOL Most likely he is just too busy to do much smoozin. But things will be better next year.

But generally speaking I find that they all like the attention, are friendly and outgoing. Even the invaders from the NE who came to Tampa for the Patriot Cup were all class acts, and put on a great show. Allen Hopkins looks better in real life than on TV and is a virtual ball of energy.

And none of them know me.

Hi, new here. :)
Yep, Mika is really friendly. I just became his fan this year and i was surprised he entertained my emails and whenever he's in the Philippines, he actually is so nice enough to accept a call from a fan or text (send mobile message) back.

Mikka was goofing around with a few guys (one after another) this week at Ferrule down by Libis, QC in Manila. I noticed that he is more experimental with using acute english on the ball. He just smiled and told me that yes, he was having fun with more english now, mainly counterspin. He just had the fans coming turn by turn in racing him to five wins, but he was doing his best, integrating practice with accommodating his fans.

i wish i was in manila!
right now though, wish i was in boracay cause that's where he is!
