MIKE DSECHAINE WINS UTB Championship

Congratulations also to Jeremy Sossei.

After losing his second match, he won 7 matches in a row on the left side, including the following 5 in a row: Pagulayan, Souquet, Shuff, Hatch, and Morris -- by an aggregate score of 40-22!. How's that for slaying some giants? He then lost to Deschaine, to finish in a tie for 5th/6th with Appleton.

One of these days, this young man is going to win a big event.

No doubt about that...

What I think happened.
..jacked up slightly, close quarters...
..cue ball goes air-born..bounces off the point of the cushion

Yes he really punched the cb down into the slate, semi jumping into the object ball. The object ball hit the rail airbourne if only by a millimeter or two and then up and out off the point.

I think he didn't freak to much because he knew he hit it badly.

IMO, He Fouled..

That was a foul on the 8 ball.. He double hit the cue ball.. This is the problem with having referees.. They simply don't know what is, or isn't a foul.. Whenever I'm playing someone, and they ask me If I think I should get someone to call a hit, or if they ask someone to call my hit, I simply say "no, I'll call the hit, and if it's a foul, I'm gonna call it a foul, and there's gonna be no discussion about it... And I'm gonna give the same courtesy to you"..

Not griping, though.. Mike played very well, and JJ had many chances..

What do you do when the tournament director, who you didn't call to watch, tells you that all unwitnessed calls go to the shooter? At least that's what's done in tournament play.

Now when playing 1 on 1, with people I am used to playing for $, we call our own fouls mostly. If we can't decide then we either rerack or whack it and start over.

It's an issue, IMO.. The score, last night, was 10-9 Jeremy, when this happened, so it's reasonable to say it probably cost him the match.. And he knew it was a foul, and even asked the referee, but was ignored.. Jones handled it, from there, the way you're supposed to, in a gentlemanly fashion, but it doesn't change the fact that the ref missed an obvious call.. Which is not good, IMHO..

I think the hardest thing to fade would be that referee. He is just a little too close and always shifting around. That would drive me nuts! Great playing and thanks for the link.

Congrats Mike you played great, and I couldn't agree more about the referee he was even looking over and smiling at somebody after Mike made that great position shot in the last game (130:53) but Mike had to reset himself twice before the shot because the ref. would start moving around every time Mike got down to shoot . I didn't think it was funny but apparently the ref. did. He needs to learn to fade into the back ground a little more, the match is not about him. jmho

Always nice to see an up and comer to do well for himself, where the hard work finally pays off.
I agree, this looks like it won't be his last.
