Mike Dunklin

Anyone familiar with this player? How good was he?
Was? Is he gone? I saw him 3-4 months ago.
I'm sure others know his level better than I do but I'd say (from what i remember), at his best he was about a 665 if there was a Fargo back then. I've only faced him on the bar box but a friend once told me he was even better on the big track.

Ok. Cool. Does he still shoot? What is your fargo rating?

He still plays but not at the level he once did.
I was around the same but don't play much anymore so I bounce between 610-620.
If I played more than once every month or two I could raise that a bit but have no motivation to do so.
Why did you ask "How good was he?"
You make it sound like he passed or can no longer play.

He was my roommate for 7 years. I just talked him in to joining my ACS league. He lives about 4 miles up the road from me. He’s still alive and playing.

I don't know much about him. Just heard he was a good player. Didn't mean to sound as if he wasn't around anymore. 610-620 and only play about once a month is impressive.👍

Are there any strong money players in your area?

I play about once a year for the last 5 years and play that level.

Who would be the top 3 players in the Illinois area?

If that was a list for straight pool only, #59 would be in the top ten in his day.
Guy ran over 100 every day he came to the pool hall 15 years ago.

Never even heard of him and that's not far from here. There's only 5 names on there I recognize from Southern Illinois, a handful towards the top from the quad cities minus Bowman and 2 at the top are more St Louis players. I talked with Dunklin at a tourney once, he's a really nice guy and highly respected by all the top players. He was telling stories and one time him an Hennessee won some $ in Danville, Il then got robbed!!

Yeah Bob was a sick 14.1 player.
I still recognize 25% or so of those names.
Dunklin and Donny Branson tried getting my buddy and I into a money game many years ago.
My bud could easily hang with Mike but neither of us were a match for Donny. Hard pass on that game.
They probably hoped we didn't know who they were.
I spoke with Mike this summer at JOB's in Nashville. He plays in the split brackets down there fairly often.
