Mike Massey finger pool

Mike was in the UK recently competiting in the World Snooker Trickshots and he did a few segments for the BBC coverage of the World Snooker Championship showing off his stuff. He of course showed his finger pool spins which are fantastic. I firstly saw this a couple of years or so back and I am still wondering how he gets so much action on the cue ball. I would presume that most people can spin the ball a bit with their fingers, but how does he get so much action on that cue ball? Has this been discussed before? Are there any instructions on how to try and attempt to do it? Sites? Links?

Cheers

He has really big hands and that makes up for a lot. Same way that people can hold whole racks of balls in their hand and others can't, I would guess.

His nickname is Tennessee Tarzan for good reason. He is strong as an ox especially in his hands.

BTW when he spins the balls, he does it ass backwards from the way which seems natural.

You need a strong grip, which means strong and coridnated fingers, if i used the right termonology.
I spin the ball well but my hands are not big, just a good grip. I'd not compare myself to Mike but I'm not to bad.

I don't know of any links, you just need good fingers and a good understanding of throw and spin needed.

For instance I can do this shot which Mike does. I'll put it on the wei and show the english used on the c/b. I stand almost facing the head end of the table and throw the c/b backhanded (opposite of a pool stroke).

Mike

He practices it a lot and you don't.

It's like someone approaching you and asking you to do something for money.
You can be sure they have practiced and are good at it, and they know
you are not ...

You know, one of the best recommendations I could give to someone wanting to become a better poolplayer is to read:

The Art of War by Sun Tzu (one of the very top strategists ever lived)

It will teach you more about logic and mental preparation and toughness, and applies to all areas of life, not just Pool.

Huge, powerful hands, and a whole lot of practice is how Mike does it.

At the 1992 US Open Straight pool event, Massey gave an exihibition that included finger pool. Not only did it blow my mind, but nearly none of his fellow pros had ever seen him perform before, and many of them were going wild as he perfomred some of his magic over the green felt.

After watching Mike many times in person, I am convinced that he can put more spin on the cue ball by hand than most people can with a cue!!!
