You'd have to ask KT.

I think most of it may have to do with a favor from a buddy. On top of that he is technically the IPT World Champion and top ranked player on the IPT. Furthermore he is the star that KT is building the tour around. He is the character that he wants to sell. Are there any cameras at these qualifiers?

From the start, KT has believed Mike to be the cornerstone player for this tour, the one that will help him market this tour.

He wouldn't have been my choice, as Sigel, who disappeared from the pool scene for over a decade, has minimal name recognition except among the most ardent pool fans. In fact, Sigel probably has less name recognition than dozens of other pro pool players. Add this to the fact that Sigel's playing skills are no longer world championship class, and his selection can only be viewed as a favor from his freind KT.

Still, this was KT's choice to make, and I don't see anything wrong with Sigel getting 2,000 for each win, as he is an important cog in KT's marketing plan.

If I were running this type of free-form challenge to get marketing exposure for this tour, I'd have gone with Thorsten Hohmann and/or Nick VanDenBerg, who are young and very photogenic, and have very big games.

I'd be willing to wager that Efren is making more $ by not being there, and Mike is there to provide schtick and pizzazz IMO. Plus Efren just took down a nice score at the KOH and would rather match up for the cash or play chess than travel all over and fade all the requirements. It would almost be like a job - what self-respecting pool player wants that?

You're probably right, but it's less exciting if all the drawn eliminated players lose. :o

I don't think this really matters. No pool player has really any name recognition outside of the savants. Any non player that might recognize them however just adds up to "ya I think I heard of them once". So I think Mike Sigel is a good pick because he is certainly a character.

Just my point. In the absence of players having name recognition, I'd have picked among the young photogenic players with big games on the IPT. Hohmann and VanDenBerg both qualify as such, as do some others.

I see what your saying but I think a person with alot of character will capture the publics attention before someone with a good game will. Pagualyan and Morris will probably end up being the peoples favorite, but Sigel will turn everyones head in their direction (inadvertently Im sure).

I ask a similar question PERSONALLY to Nick Varner in December in Mesa AZ when he was there to do a Demonstration.

My question had to do with the KOH Match where Sigel step in after all the Player player to Play Efren for the KOH Title.

Nick more or less said the without Sigel friendship to Kevin T, there would be no IPT, as Mike has been pitching the idea to KT for 10 years or so.

KT & Mike are buddies, and KT is the man with the Gold so to say, so he make the rules.

Varner in so many words said who care, as he has a chance to make some REAL Money playing in the IPT, and got 30K coming to the KOH, as he is a Hall of Famer...

If Efren was playing them no one would qualify.
