Mike Sigel's GPPA leagues

RJ...Do you really believe running a pool league is free? I had five league areas spread out over 90,000 square miles (yep, I said 90K). Some went to paybacks, some went to administrative costs, some went to travel funds to send teams to Vegas, some went to end of session playoff prize funds, some went to end of year banquets, some went to trophies and other prizes...etc.

Scott, where did I say it was free ? I only asked where the money goes, not a bad question imho. I was not sure if the LO sent the teams to Vegas, or it was the APA Home Office ??

So, basically, the other $15 per team per night is for the Vegas fund... that's ok.

Players have a choice, and that is fine. I think like any "leader" like the APA is, others are gonna gun for them, and folks are now looking to see what the best deal is for them and their team... it's good to have competition :)

Did you notice on their website it's supposed to start on April 1st? Maybe it's just an April fool's joke. I have ahard time believing anyone has any faith in Sigel.

While I doubt this kind of format is the future of pool in the long run, I feel it's just what we need in our current situation. Big reward money and this new type of handicapping could potentially attract tons of new, fresh recreational players and beginners and introduce them to the deeper layers of the pool world. Mr Sigel is a smart and courageous man who recognized where exactly the global pool problems lie and adapted his league accordingly. I truly hope GPPA will prove successful.

No, I said the other $15 was divided up among the expenses I listed...not that it all went to the travel fund. It should be obvious that there are significant expenses associated with running any league...APA, BCAPL, TAP, NAPA or whatever.

APA Corporate has never been involved with sending teams to Vegas...that has always been the domain of the local LO's. Nobody will ever knock the APA off the top of the league "heap". They were first, and they will remain the dominant league imo. Not saying they couldn't do it better...I believe they could...but I've been out of the league for 20 yrs now.

spktur...It is not a joke. The GPPA is already in place in many areas of the country, and according to them, will begin league play nationally on April 1, 2014.
