What is a sleeved ivory joint?

It means that the center of the joint where the pin goes in is still wood, and the ivory is "sleeved" around it. Some cuemakers build their joints this way because they feel that it strengthens the joint more. Solid ivory joints can crack, especially in the winter if you don't let them acclimate to temperature changes.

which hits better the solid ivory joint or the sleeved?

matter of preference. Less likely to crack with a sleeve. Also wood to wood + hit of ivory w/sleeve.
