Mike Webb experience..

Just thought others thinking of dealing with him may wish to have a heads up.

I purchased a Mike Webb cue, like new second hand.. Nice cue but due to a brain fart and temper by me the shaft was ruined..:(

Now I had read on here several negative post of others experiences regarding him about lake of contact very very late but reached out and called anyway. Very surprised he did call back within a day or so and very pleasant to chat with. (no email or text just calls with ID is all he deals with)

Told him what happened and asked about a new shaft to keep the cue original. NO PROBLEM..about 2 -3 weeks (called mid Sept about) About a week later I called back to see if he could make also a mid 3' black extension...No problem will be starting first of the week should be all done b4 the end of the month (OCT.)

Got a call Thanksgiving week saying only 1 one poly coat should be done this weekend and out 1st Dec. GREAT THANKS

Well you likely guessed or the review would be all happy now!!

NOPE...not shipped

X-mas week I think I called by him mistake. Wrong button pushed on my cell phone....He says "just going to call you. I called the guy I ship UPS with ASKING for the SHIPPING #'s" ..(NOTE THIS) Implies complete and packaged right.

Well guy tells him his UPS is account has been frozen personal money matter (not Mikes) so Mike says he went/or will pick them up and ship USPS asap. But doesn't want to put them in the x-mas rush for fear of damage...

Well come week b4 MLK week 14th Jan. Now this is 3 weeks later I call and ask whats up...ya ya ya. Mike I don't wish to be an A S S..."Oh no it's not you it's me" Mike says I let him know if I do receive them by middle of next week keep them... Oh I should have already shipped them out. it's me not you...OK

Well 2 weeks later and nothing...I'll not call again...If they happen to arrive I'll post.

JUST FYI for those that may care.

Not so...very aware of cue maker time....just not the language when a man says done took to UPS for shipping MAKING is COMPLETE wouldn't you think. That was X-mas week. a month now and ???.

But again just FYI/ heads up for those that may be thinking of dealing with him..
Didn't say he is not a nice guy just his word ....well you make up your own mind
.

mike is a sweet guy to talk to
but his customer service is surely lacking
i ordered a cue from him
(no deposit)
2 years later no cue after several times telling me it was close to being finished
finally i told him forget it
he also told me his repair work is what pays his bills and thats his priority
the guy make great playing cues
but to the op
you are not the first one to have the experience you are having
hope alls well that ends well
whenever that is....

Love Mike and his cues. My experience was somewhat humorous. While at an event at Mike Zuglan's old pool room, I gave him one of my Schon shafts to have taken down from 13.25 to 13 mm and a new tip installed. Got the shaft back the next day and returned home. Looked great. Tried it out. Tip was fine. The shaft felt the same. Got out my template. Still 13.25 mm. Called Mike and told him. His answer was " if you want it 13, I'll make it 13. Asked him why I paid him to take the shaft down. Silence. Oh well. Still had him put another tip on a few years later. Still get a chuckle out of it! Would still have him do work for me. He is special :sorry: .

This is fairly common. They live on SCT( standard cuemaker time). Add about 40% to what they tell you and you'll be in the ballpark. In their defense, a lot of builders are not full-timers and backlogs just happen. Best i've ever dealt with is Andy Gilbert. He IS a full-timer and doesn't jack around. His work is perfect and fast.

Mike Webb is his own type of animal. He is stubborn, can be cranky and has set ideas. The thing is his ideas about cues WORK. His finish is one of the top on the planet. A friend of mine had his dog chew on his Webb cue. Never broke or cracked the finish, had like one dent on it. He also dropped it on the corner of his table, could not really find where it hit.

I will tell you though to get good service from him he not just has to know you, he has to like you as well LOL, and he does not give a rat's ass if you are waiting or complaining, he'll get to it when he gets to it.

I've been to his shop a few times for tips/shaft/cue cleaning and we've always hung out at Snookers and played together along with my son, who he has known for half his life and pretty much ever since his first days going to play pool with me when he as 8 (he's 15 now) so I am a bit biased I have to admit, but I do know how his personaly is. Same thing with Mike Dechaine, you have to spend some time with him to get his sense of humor and the fact that he makes his living from playing pool to get how he behaves at times.

I asked him a few times if he is taking orders, he always states "if I know you, I will make a cue for you". If I ever need to have a cue made for my son and will have spare cash around, it will 90% chance be a Webb. Even though I've known him for years and I like to think he likes me and my son as much as anyone else not his direct friends, he's never once said "I'll do this cheap for you since I know you", he does the work, I pay the same price. I'll drive 45 minutes to his place for a tip rather than 10 minutes and have someone else near me do it. There are maybe 2 other guys in my area I'd go to for cue work, and that's because Mike said good things about them.

SCT= Standard Cuemaker Time------:rotflmao1::rotflmao1::rotflmao1:

All funny stuff aside, I am sure both UPS and USPS are both still backed up from the holiday rush. It is my understanding if you shipped something 2 weeks either side of the holidays that you can realistically expect to receive said item 1st week in July, so I think you are jumping the gun a little here. It is not at all unusual to ship one item Dec. 23rd and a 2nd item June 28th and have them both arrive on the exact same day on July 1st, depending of course your zip code and standard shipping time, which is known in the time zone world is SST, that is GMT +/- 28 weeks. If you do not believe me, look it up, its a thing!!!!

Yes, Mike's a disaster. He's had a couple of my cues in repair for years and I can't get them back. He's bad news. He did one good job for me once then this - always a long sob story about what has happened to him. I've referred others to him and they're in the same boat. What a mistake it was dealing with Mike! I usually always use Scot Sherbine who has never let me down, but these repairs were more up Mike's alley. It's not a small amount either - this is several thousand dollars worth of cues.

I'm sure any forum member local to hum will pick them up for you

I like your opening line, "Yes, Mike is a disaster". You must be a real piece of work yourself!

First off, so everyone knows, Mike is an awesome guy, and even better cuemaker! On top of that, he's got a huge heart!

Now, those of you that know him personally, you know he has his moods. That being said, I'd rather deal with people that are "real"! Maybe that's why I get along with Mike. We both tell people what we feel and not worried so much on "feelings"

I understand people's frustrations, but if you could see the frustrations that Mike has to put up with people, maybe you would understand! This doesn't make it ok for Mike but all I'm saying he is a stand up guy! He may be late, but you won't get work like Mike's PERIOD!!!

The worst customers %wise, are pool players! This is why I stay away from any and all pool players when it comes to work! This isn't 100%, but it is a high %! Again, this isn't an excuse, but from Mike's perspective, when people are telling you one thing(about payments) and not keeping there word, it takes its toll on business! I have the same issue in the automotive world! This is why I take 75% of all repair money down, and then I work on the vehicle! Sounds bad, I know, but if you don't, the domino affect happens!

And this people, is the story! Tough job being a cuemaker!

Sorry to pick on ya Tate, I just totally didn't care for your statement! I found it stupid and a*complete falsehood!

Yes, I am a piece of work. You can tell from my numerous I trader positives and years of good rep,.

How would you feel if he had your cues for years, gave excuse after excuse, and wouldn't return them?

Do you care to dispute the facts?

Why don't you talk to him, see what the facts are , and talk to him about getting my cues back to me? Worst of all, I referred people to him that he screwed over too.

Mike has made me a few cues over the last years, and some were where people canceled after he made them ( their loss) . Great quality, finish and price. And great repair work.

I did say Mike seemed to be a nice guy !!! Not saying his work isn't very good..
Money was not the issue as Mike said not to worry he would send them out COD. Not many are going to do this. I said I could send him the money in advance or have him pick it up at Wally world so he received it quicker....

What I don't understand if (((( IF ))))) done. Again a shaft (not much as likely has blanks on hand) and an extension again not much. Why not ship out if he truly had tried as he said to ship once.

maybe he still ships in the future , not likely, but if so I will post ASAP.

I just spoke to Mike - I called him and he returned my call. He feels terrible about the delay and he plans on shipping the cues next week. I will report back if I get them.

I like Mike as a person - always have. He needs to get on his game - these sort of delays are beyond unacceptable and he is the first one to agree. I would honestly like to see nothing more than Mike getting back on top of his game. I want him to succeed.

Maybe our personal meaning of the word "disaster" is slightly different! Anyway, if you speak to Mike again, tell him Eli says hi! I haven't seen him in over 4-5 months now!
