Millimeters / Inches ..why

Somebody told me a long time ago, that you should make $20 an hour, on repair jobs. Certainly you can put a lot of tips on in an hour, but say you snap off a tenon doing a ferrule job. That is going to slow you up. The average can easily be $20 an hour. I can do a rewrap in 30 minutes. I get $30 for these. That makes up for the tenon job. BUT, if you throw in some job for nothing, you have just gone in the hole. My prices are cheap...,but I won't work for nothing & neither should anybody else. Be profesional about your work & it will reward you, with a decent income & respect from those you deal with...JER

If you can't make at LEAST $50 bucks an hour for actual work and you own your own business, you better have a day job, or skip paying taxes.

It cost me more than $20.00 per hour for my part time helper when I pay Federal Taxes, Social Security Matching, State Taxes, Workman's Comp and Unemployment Taxes. I think the owner of the business should make at least as much as his employees. :)

When a customer comes in for a ferrule replacement he does not realize the labor cost, equipment cost, electric and water cost, mortage cost on building, insurance. Neither does he realize that the ferrule must be made; parted off the rod, each end faced, drilled and tapped, the tenon threaded and epoxy mixed and the ferrule installed. Next the tip must be sanded to remove the sealer, glued and clamped to the ferrule. Eveything must be reduced in size to the same diameter as the shaftwood (without touching the wood and damaging the shaft). The tip then must be shapped and burnished. The ferrule must then be sanded and polished to a nice shine. I charge $50.00 for the ferrule replacement plus the tip cost: $15.00 to $50.00 depending on the tip desired. I am not going to get into Web Site Cost, Office Cost, Equipment Repairs, Supplies Cost, Cleaning Cost, Bookkeeping, the cost of ordering everything, phone and all the other things that must be paid for evey day.

Usually it is $65.00 for the ferrule replacement and tip and I am not getting rich because my expenses are so high to have good and safe environment and equipment for me and my helper.

I had been building cues for about two years and my wife came to me one day and asked "Is there ever going to come a time that UPS does not come to the door with at least $200.00 worth of supplies every day?" I replied:
"Not in your lifetime :) ).

If I charged $65 for a ferrule and tip, I would be making about $250 an hour. :)

time and experience teaches us a lot,,,,I won't give a firm price of a ferrule replacement on a meucci,,,99% of them I've taken on have needed a tenon replacement, too,,,d--n thinwall ferrules,,,customers continue to play after the ferrule cracks,,,then the tenon cracks, too,,,most customers are understanding, but some blame me for the split tenon,,,won't quote a price now until I cut the tip off, then most split tenons are visable,,,,then I tell them, that'll be $XX.xx

Good for you. I cannot make and replace 4 ferrules and 4 tips in an hour the right way. I can make and replace only one. I am glad you are so fast. Have a nice day.

Again, what kind of tip do you charge $50 for? I am very curious, always on the prowl for new tips, and this sounds like a new one.

Thanks,
Roger

How much do you charge for your #1 hard maple shaft with black collar, black ferrule and a medium Moori tip?

Thanks

Greetings,

It sure is but it all started with this one: http://www.arnotq.com/pages/667/667.html.

A friend of mine owns it and he and everyone who plays with it cannot say enough about it. These cues feel alive and are like a direct extension of your arm, awesome feel and hit!! You maybe interested in reading his testamonial on Arnot's website:

Arnie, I am fortunate to have had the distinct opportunity to play with the "Arnot Butterfly Cue <http://www.arnotq.com/pages/667/667.html> " as you describe on your website. This is a player's player cue of the utmost distinction. This cue has the best balance and hit to feedback performance that I have ever experienced. It reminds me of what the original Kershenbock goal of what the ultimate cue performance should be. Whatever it is that you are doing do not change a thing and continue this magnificent performance scenario.

Pocket billiards is a second life for me and I have been active in this activity for over 35 years at all levels as a player and a recognized pocket billiards referee. Beyond the many championship matches that I have referred, I am most proud of my role in the referee in the "Color of Money" featuring Tom Cruise.

What impresses me most in your Butterfly Cue" is the outstanding forward weighting balance of the purple heart configuration combined with awesome solid hit that is better than some of my favorite one piece cues believe it of not. The T3 Terminator shaft produces minimal deflection that improves ball-pocketing skills immensely. Last but not least the "butterfly design" as it is a work of art and adds a distinctive element that is hard to find by any master cue maker.

I thank you for the opportunity to play with this truly distinctive and groundbreaking innovation. I look forward towards acquiring this awesome weapon in creating competitive dominance. Thank you once again for the awesome eye opening experience.

I think i like that even better :D .
When a butterfly splice is done right, it's hard to beat.

I need to get to work, and make me one :D
