Million Dollar Tournament question....

Can anyone confirm how many people Allen has signed up? I heard he only has 10 signed up. It this correct? If so, it is a mighty long way from the 200 players that were suppose to be there. It is hard to believe that out of all the champions out there that only 10 can get staked or come up with the $5000 to play.

I don't know how many players are signed/unsigned to play as I haven't been following any details of this tournament at all :)

I will say though that $5K is still quite a big chunk of bankroll to be handing over for an entrance fee, and I know that even if I had $5K, I wouldn't be paying it to enter 1 tournament, no matter how big the prize money is :)

I had a chance to speak to Allen about 4 wks. ago. I asked how the 1M tourna. was coming along. At that time he stated that if everyone who signed up were to play there would be about an $800K payout.

After hearing of the fiasco that took place at Q Billiards about two wks ago with a qualifying event only 18 "signed up" but only four (or so ) players actually showed up to play.

I don't know how the entire sign up procedure operates but they should take a CC# at the time of sign up, be it by phone, internet, or a check thru the mail prior to the actual date of the event. Also have a cut-off date for sign up and after that date it would be more expensive to sign up.

I also want to add that an indivual can pay the entire 5K and enter in the 1M tourna. Or he'she can play in a qualifer and get into the tourna. for much less. ( If i'm wrong here I'm sure someone will correct my error.)

I participate in another competitive sport and most of the events req'd pre-payment or you may not get into the event at all.

There is a dedicated sub forum for the tournament and there is an updated player list on tournament site. 7 Players including Allen paid.

I guess it could go in the subforum but I wanted to get everyone's take on why more players can't get backed for this. Thanks nostroke.

A better question might be...why aren't YOU backing someone in this event? The answer reflects why others can't get backed either. If the event even happens, it will be a decent payout to one or two players, and rest will be lucky to get their entry back, imo. $5K is just too big a nut for even a pro player to swallow...and especially in this economy, few are willing to gamble $5000 on this format...let alone a one-on-one matchup. That goes for potential 'backers' too.

That's what I was getting at with my initial reply, when I said that even if I had $5K for the entrance fee, I still wouldn't pay in the tournament :)

If I had $5K, I would be going to the US Open, DCC or the BCA nationals in Vegas or some of the other big events like the Glass City Open, The Windy City Open, etc :)

P.S. On a side note - What date is the Windy City Open being played this year, any details on the entrance fee, dates, etc? :)

because unless it's stealing I try and make it a habit to not stake anyone. There are only 3 players I would absolutely trust 100% to stake anyway. You are also laying 2 to 1 and most money matches aren't near true 2 to 1 odds.

If I were gonna stake someone, it would be in a tourney. Unless it's someone I'm nearly 100% sure about their character, I won't even side bet a match for more than $20. But $5000 is a pretty large entry.

Yeah and its usually both sides getting backed. Never understood why anyone would try to outrun that unless like you said you are stealing.
Not to mention, ive seen guys lose who were "stealing".

My point EXACTLY!:D

I think he's have a fair amount of places paid in this tourny. The odds of having a chance at your investment back are pretty good. If a player does well, 2 to 1 will not be in question. Stevie probably would do well.
