Hey all,

What would you guys do if some seller here advertised an item and when it arrives to you is not what it was advertised as? What would you do?

HOPEFULLY YOU PAID WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD AND PAYPAL
OR
THE SELLER IS STAND UP AND REFUNDS YOUR MONEY.

LUCKILY WITH THIS FORUM I HAVE NOT RUN INTO ANYONE THAT HAS PROVIDED ME WITH A BAD TRANSACTION, BUT EBAY AND OFF EBAY PURCHASES ALWAYS BEWARE AND KNOW AT LEAST 10% OF THE TIME YOU WILL RUN INTO THIEVES AND LIARS.

This has happened to me on occasion. I would ask for a refund and explain why. I would also offer to "eat" the shipping charges so as to increase the likelyhood that the seller will take the product back. There are some people that will falsely advertise to simply get ride of a product, but there are many who simply don't examine the product closely enough, and unknowingly misrepresent. I would definately touch base with the seller and try and work it out.

If the seller is totally uncompromising, I would "out him" on Azbilliards so that the rest of the community can avoid transacting with him. I've been burned twice through Ebay, and have curtailed cue purchases as a result.

Doug

cuz i have a problem. I bought something from this forum from someone who posts here.

He advertised a Paul Mottey shaft (12.65mm dia)with Ivory Ferrule for 100 plus shipping. I agreed and paid him quickly through Paypal even though he doesn't have the shaft on hand, saying he sent it back to Paul to refinish it. Along the way, i had also specified that i wanted it shipped by USPS. He however gets it mixed up and sends it by FedEx, costing me more. However thats not the part i'm peeved at, it is that when it comes, its only 12mm and it doesn't look like it has been refinished, just sanded down.

I have sent him several emails, but it has been a good many days without reply. What can i do?

12mm is a far cry from 12.65mm. This would lead me to believe that he was purposely desceptive in his description. For him to advertise measurement within 1/100 of a millimeter, means he should have accurately measured the shaft.

There is a good chance that he is trying to "dump you" if he has not responded to emails after several days. I guess I would give him a couple more and then I would open it up for discussion here on AZ. It boggles my mind how people can be so cheap over a shaft that costs $100. If the guy had any decency at all he'd take the shaft back.

Regards,

Doug

I know how you feel. I have been there recently. I bought a cue from an AZB member (who frequently post items for sale) and when I got it, I was really disgusted...the cue has at least 10+ CRATERS on the butt! I revisted the original post and realized why the seller only put pics that show part of the cue and not the whole cue. I put it down as caveat emptor and a lesson learned. Needless to say, I won't ever buy anything from the person again.

I personally think the guy should give your money back. But here is my guess of what may have caused the size problem. Many people refer to shaft refinishing as a cleaning and sealing of the shaft. They are usually not refering to the few inches of clear coat on the bottom. Believe it or not many cuemakers do not use cleaner to clean a shaft. They just sand the shaft until it is clean looking. That removes a lot of material. It sounds like the sand method was used on the shaft to "refinish it". If he measured it before sending it off while expecting it to come back the same diameter and clean, then he probably did not intend to misrepresent it. Whoever worked on the shaft caused the size problem.

New List!

Perhaps we should start naming such sellers, and create a twin for the honest sellers list - the "dishonest sellers list" And allow the sellers to reply to the posts, and have it be sort of a "dispute console" like ebay has, to allow the two parties to work things out.

The buyer will post on the thread because of wanting people to know about the seller. The seller will post a reply because they dont want their name trashed on AZ because of one faulty transaction.

I e-mailed him several times (about the diameter) in which there where lengthy return e-mails to me with an out-of-town excuse, about that Mottey shaft and he said to me on a couple of occasions that it was definatley 12.6mm.................. Thank god i didnt end up buying that shaft as i like 13.00 or a hair not a mile under !!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

Perhaps He Had 2 Shafts???

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am selling a Paul Mottey shaft. It is straight, 3/8 X 10, 12mm, with an ivory ferrule. Was used primarily for billiards. $100 plus shipping from Illinois.

I suppose that's possible but if a cuemaker sanded my shaft down that much I'd shoot him, maybe twice. That's easily enough for a re-taper not a cleaning. LOL If a cuemaker doesn't know the difference, how does he stay in business? I suppose that's why I see these cues on here with dinky little shafts for sale.

at first, after this thread was posted, the seller did contact me. however i am still waiting a 2nd reply from him.

good news is that he is offered to pass me back my cash, bad news is that it is not all of what i paid.

would it be reasonable to ask for the amt i paid for the shaft plus shipping minus paypal charges since i am sending back the shaft on my own expense?

I am a paypal shit head I guess. I would write paypal and tell them what happenned. Get them to refund your money. then have that retard to send you money to send the shaft back to him!!!!:D I hate these types of people!!!

I have written to paypal but they say that they do not handle complaints about the attributes or quality of goods received. sigh.

I am still waiting for the seller.

Unfortunately, there is very little you can do. I just went through a similar situation. A few months ago bought a cue with "12.75 and 12.70" shafts which were in reality 12.3 and 12.0. Also, butt was severly warped (not disclosed). The ebay seller's auction stated "refund given as money back". When I asked the seller to return the item becuase it was not as advertsied, he said "he had no return policy". The seller would not agree to take the cue back for a refund, but returned $200 toward repairs. Well, I'm no dumbass and $200 is better than nothing. And mind you, this was a seller with almost 200 + feedback (100%).

The moral to this story is....sometimes there's not much you can do except to leave negative feedback (eBay) and bring the issue to light so others don't have the same experience as you.

Paypal Refund

The seller can go to his Paypal page, and look at the transaction from you. At the bottom of the page, he is able to refund your full payment within 30 days, and there are no fees to either one of you.

The cost of you returning the shaft, would have to be negotiated between the two of you.

I have noticed people shopping on ebay now adays waiting until they have purchased the item before they decide to look at negative feed back. I mean people try to take short cut now adays!!

unfortunately, since my last correspondence with the seller, i have not heard a word from him. it is really testing my patience. the shaft is ready to go back to him but i have no word on the refund.

perhaps he needs to see this before he replies.
