Missing in action from International

Missing from the International Open. Skyler Woodward, Billy Thorpe, Justin Hall, Justin Bergman, Chip Compton, and the guy who claims to be a top five one pocket player, Scott Frost. Why didn't these guys play, it would have been a good tune up for Skyler for the Mosconi cup, and for those hoping to get on the team.

Chip and Frost were never in the running for MC. They had their big match in Az. Apparently the others just didn't want to play. Sky is already on the MC and Bergman is not traveling at all. J. Hall stays in action at Buffalo's. Probably makes more $$ and doesn't have to travel.

Whatever their reasons, I respect them. The pro circuit is a grind and each player must pick his spots as they see fit. Far more noteworthy is the absence of eight of the eighteen players with a Fargo of 810 or higher. None of these were present:

Xiaohuai Zheng 823
Ko Pin Yi 822
Jung Lin Chang 821
Carlo Biado 821
Francisco Sanchez Ruiz 820
Eklent Kaci 820
Ko Ping Chung 817
Niels Feijen 813

I hear they had a field of 128 and had spots for 160. Wasn't it 750 to enter?

The 9-Ball entry fee was $500, not $750.
There was a total of $63,000 in added money:
$50,000 for 9-Ball
$8,000 for the BigFoot 10-Ball
$5,000 for the One-Pocket.

Xiaohuai Zheng 823, Ko Ping Chung 817, Ko Pin Yi 822, and Jung Lin Chang 821 could not enter the USA because the Chinese/Taiwanese vaccine (about 40%) doesn't meet the US standard for efficacy. They would have had to enter the US and remain in isolation for 14 days prior to the Tournament.

Carlo Biado 821 Returned home to the Philippines to be with his family for the Holidays. He announced this immediately after he won the US Open. He stated that he probably would return to the US for Derby City

Francisco Sanchez Ruiz 820 Stated that he wanted to be with his family after having been away for a long time. I believe he has a young child.

Eklent Kaci 820 and Niels Feijen 813 Coming directly to the US from the Schengen Area, they would have had to enter the US and remain in isolation for 14 days prior to the Tournament. Kaci and Niels stayed in Europe and competed there.

Skyler and Thorpe both called and said they could not attend because of "personal reasons".

Frost and Chip are primarily one-pocket players and they didn't think the One-Pocket prize money was enough of an incentive to make the trip, especially since they would have had almost no chance to win big in the 9-Ball Event. Besides they are frquently in action matches.

Bergman doesn't travel much and Hall is mostly in action matches these days.
