Missing: New valley coin-op

I was able to go to the BCA show last week after an abscence of about 10 years. What a difference a decade makes. Anyway, I was interested in seeing Valley's new coin-op with the flush corner castings and recessed pockets, but they weren't displaying it at the show???? It seems to me that would have been a great place to get some exposure for the table, they already used it here at the Valley tournament in May but I missed seeing it there, so I was looking forward to checking it out. Just wondering if the new tables are popping up anywhere else in the country. Valley's booth had prominently displayed signs saying "made in Richland Hills, Texas, USA" !!!! That was one of the biggest differences since my last show, most stuff made offshore now.

PS maybe that was because Valleys booth space was right accross the aisle from DIAMOND??

I heard there still some issues they need to work. Balls bouncing out of the pocket. I also was disappointed not to see it at the show. Nice that there making them back in the states.

kinda wondering

You don't want to park a VW across from a Lambarghini do you?

Not knocking Diamond but I have to admit I'm watching some with great curiosity. They are under five years old in a pool hall and already starting to show their age. The pockets aren't what they were even two years ago. Knock those Valley bar tables if you want to but they last forever in bar rooms which is an even tougher environment than a pool hall.

What do you mean by wear? Rubber rails losing shape? Return mechanisiums?

That's true! I'd love to have BOTH a Diamond 9' and a 7' valley bar box at my place, next to eachother. Pick your poison ;)

Valley Bar Boxes are pretty tough in my neck of the woods. Drunken slugs tend to slam balls & the house cues everywhere. The Valley table takes it & then some! Its a tough product for drunken slobs IMO.

loose pocket leathers

Loose pocket leathers curled up interfering with pocketing balls and they look like they just plain need replacing. The tables all play differently from each other now too. Partially due to the table mechanics and the lay out of the room and air conditioning I'm sure but I'm not sure that explains all of it. The Diamondwood is holding up great, I'm not sure about the rest of the table. What I'm really watching for is if they develop structural issues. They give me the feeling they aren't quite as ruggedly built as the GC's and Valley bar boxes that must be little tanks for their size. I see them picked up and dropped and everything else.

All I have is an overall feeling about the Diamond nine footers, not willing to say anything concrete either way about these right now. They are in a pool hall so no ball return or coin mechanism on them to be able to say how these things hold up. Being old and gimpy I like drop pockets a lot better than ball return.

Yeah, I don't have room for one table right now and I'm daydreaming about building a place for two, a seven footer and a ten footer.

yes, they do hold up well in some tuff environments, hope Valley can give Diamond some competition. nice to see they are making some improvements.

If Valley is ever going to compete with Diamond it needs to offer a pro type bar box with shallower shelf, better rails (think Ridgebacks), and 4 1/2" corner pockets. and they better hurry up and do it if they are to compete with Diamond. Also they need to start sponsoring tournaments. Johnnyt

Price to stay the same?

I talked to one of the sales people from Valley and he gave me a kinda weird look when I asked him "where is your new pool table?", and even replied "what new pool table?", so I said "you know the one, the one with recessed corner castings and pockets, the re-engineered one that has the only significant changes you've made in 25 years?" That is when he told me they had already released it and even used it for the VNEA in May at the Riviera. I missed it there because the day I stopped by the Riviera they had the Valley lights hanging but no tables up yet. Anyway, he was trying to make it be not a big deal that it wasn't at the show, but what better place to get some free exposure. (they already had the booth and staff). So being that he wasn't very warm to my Questions about big talk, big hype, NO TABLE, I think I caught him off guard a little when I asked about the new pricing structure!!!All the new engeneering and re-design and new parts and pieces and he told me they were going to be the SAME PRICE AS THE OLD TABLE??? I HOPE HE'S RIGHT, to redo the table and upgrade the design and not pass the extra $$$ on to the customer, but keep it where it was before sounds like they might be on the right track!!
