I think the Missouri State Nine Ball Tournament is comming is a couple of weeks. I would appreciate any info anyone has to give. I think the tourney is in Columbia. Thanks

This is the first I heard. Please keep us posted as to time/date/location if you can. Thanks!:)

The Missouri State 9 Ball tournament is held in Columbia the weekend after the Super Bowl every year. This was once a great tournament with all the great players. I can remember going down and seeing Danny Harriman, Ricky Van Uum, Gary Sills, Bill Crowell, Darren Everett, Terry H., Gary Lutman, Martin Warren (I am sure I am leaving loads of players out) etc etc all in their prime. Now, with the ruling that once you win you can't play again, the field has diminished. Plus, the owner's of the place are not really gambling friendly so some players that are known gamblers are simply not allowed to play or don't come because there is no side action to keep them interested through out the weekend.

Watchez - Phil just told me at the DCC that a win no longer keeps you from playing in another. I think he did away with that rule in 2000.
I know he said I could play again but I don't know if that is because of the rule being done away with or maybe he said I could play again because I'm now 60.
Either way, I doubt that I could/would play again as I can't see myself playing for 14 hours on Saturday (round robin) & then coming back and playing 12 hours (double elimination) on Sunday. At this point of my life - I think I'll leave well enough alone - 2 for 2.
Won the 1st one in '82 & the last one in '05.
I may go up there (with my Son) for the Sunday finals though and root for Chuck.

Columbia is no one horse town any longer. When I lived there the population was 58,000 it is prob well over 100,000 now & growing. So, if someone would please post where it is being held & if spectators are allowed would be appreciated! Thanks.

When Phil (the owner) did away with that rule in 2000, Andy Quinn came back & won again. Phil, at first said that Andy would be allowed to come back one time to defend his title. Then, after Phil gave it some thought & in his infinite wisdom, he concluded that if Andy played he would win EVERY YEAR so he was barred again. Call Phil & ask him if Andy is allowed to play? Want to bet one of your favorite budweisers? How many times did Danny Harriman win the Missouri State 9 ball title? ZERO---why because he was barred because he was a known gambler & never given the chance to win. Joe Woolford--ZERO wins. Why was he barred? Phil won't give an answer but Joe is still not allowed to play. I also remember the year that four girls that were dating or hanging out with St Louis pool players showed up at 2:30AM after they got off work and Phill still charged them the $5 to get in the door. I have to hand it to Phil though. He has run this tournament for years, gets a full field & it is the only tournament I know that actually advertises that they are not adding money but instead taking it out. Add it up sometime.

I added the money up for the tournament. The total entry is $100 based on 80 players = $8000. $90 + $10 green fee. The payout is $7870 plus trophy's for the top 4. The green fee's would be 800. Looks like he adds most of the green fee's back to the tournament. This is a good tournament with a lot of play for the money. The qualifying round is round robin consisting 8 players playing everyone in their flight a race to 6. The semifinals is round robin of 5 players then the finals is a double elimination 12 player tournament with 4 byes. Also, a player must be a Missouri resident on order to participate.

Is it?

Open to a Kansas player to play in? Or just players from Missouri.
Different states have different rules.

I think anyone interested in playing should contact Phil. 2 or 3 months ago, he told me I was not elegable to play again in the 9-ball but could play in the 8-ball. Now at the DCC he said (with T-Bob next to me) that I could play in the 9-ball again.
Soooooooooo - Phil runs it and his decissions are final - but they may change.

Ps. - As far as I know - It is still for just Missouri residences ONLY.

That is correct, it is just open to Missouri residents. The tourney will likely have the Friday night session at Rack & Roll Billiards and two Saturday day sessions with one at R&R and the other at Billiards downtown. Like everyone has said it's the week after the superbowl. If anyone wants any specific information I can look at the entry form when I get back to my apartment.

I don't think I'm going to play in it as I am pretty busy with school and whatnot and haven't been playing much lately. Not to mention that I don't really have the money to play...lol.

I forgot to mention, if anyone is interested in playing in it you might want to call Rack & Roll Billiards to make sure there are still spots open. The number is (573) 442-9251.

Where will Sunday's Finals be?

Zeeder - If & when you can find out - Where will the Sunday Finals be held?
I hope it is at the Rack n' Roll as I think they have some of the best poolroom food going. I can still taste thet great "Hustler Cheese Burger". Not to mention the hand dipped malts & shakes.

The Sunday Final will be held at Rack & Roll as well. That being said, Billiards has the same sandwiches, appetizers, salads and whatnot as well. The only things that R&R has that Billiards doesn't are things like Pot Roast and ribs and things like that.
