Miz: all offense

I will always remember the first time I saw the Miz play. He was playing in Ray Abrams Straight-Pool Tournament in Detroit in the early 70's. Safe was not in his strategy or even in his vocabulary. The Miz was total offense. He played to end the game every inning. His play was risky, creative, and was very entertaining, and at times down-right exciting. Steve radiated confidence.

Years later, I had him visit my Billiard Room and perform an exhibition for my customers. After the show we went to dinner at a local Italian restaurant and I noticed Steve staring at my food with great interest! Sure enough, he stabbed one of my ravs with his fork right off my plate!

Steve is sadly missed. There was Greenleaf, then Mosconi, and then Mizerak, and now a vacancy.

Well straight pool seems to be dead,as for an american filling the shoes,i dont think so,perhaps one of the europeans like Hohmann.:)

I was going to sonar school in San Diego in '66 or '67, and the barracks had a couple of nice Gold Crowns. Three or four of us had turned into pool addicts, so we watched him on ABC's Wide World of Sports. Can't remember who he played or anything else from the match, but I remember one break shot from behind the pack. He had so much juice on it, it missed the rack.

Lenny... the 1 american i would think would be John "Mr 400" Schmidt. Hell of a 14.1 player. I think he would be even better if there were more 14.1 tournaments around................jmho.................mike
