Hello ,

I have been talking with a gentleman on Facebook who is selling some cues and he ask me if I could get any info on this Steve Mizerak Cue, I have seen and remember The Miz Cues at Kmart and the like back in the day . They were cheap but not to bad cues. But I have never seen one liek this with the nice rings and the Radial Pin. I am sure it did not come out this way and had to be custom done but who would spend that much on a Cue that is not worth anything. Did they make a nice version that cost more that I did not see , The Radial pin as I never seen a cue back in those days with one. Any info is Appericated and what do you think it is worth .

My Bad , The owner sayed it was. I didn't look at it close enough. I have never seen a Miz Cue made like this , I was curious as to why it was like maybe a upgraded version. I always see his cues in Kmart etc cheaper versions

There are some good cues with Miz’s name on them..pretty sure that‘s not one of them.
...he had a lot as house cues at his room in Lake Park.

Almost all those Miz cues had either a steel or plastic joint. Looks like this one may have have been changed out.

Who would spend money to alter a cue like this? - a hustler- someone walking into an action room with a cue and case like that- they look like a novice- i've seen guys carry cheap looking cues and cases- like they have no clue- but the shafts are usually custom and in this case maybe the joint was changed too- don't be surprised.
Usually it is the shaft and tip that are the custom end of the "Imposter cue" - here maybe the butt joint was altered as the hustler liked this joint configuration.

O

Or perhaps the original pin went tango uniform when the nylon bag took a digger.

I think that pin was replaced, there are some higher end looking cues under "The Miz Collection" but none with a 3/8 x 10 pin.

I don’t think that’s a 3/8x10 pin.

It looks like what Ernie Martinez was using at Showcase Billiards.

The ringwork looks like something he may have done at that time, as well.

Just catching up on posts I missed while I was gone. Sorry to dissapoint the fantasy that some cue maker modified this cue. It is as original.

These cues are, in general, better than many want to think, and they are not the "K-Mart" cue we love to poke fun at.

These are more recent iterations of the Mizerak "Pro" cues sold in the early 1990's through cue dealers. In fact some of the model designations are exactly the same.

Here are additional selected sample pics of what I mean.

Example 1 is the modern version of the SM-3 from the 1992 catalog. The Pro cues in the 1992 catalog used a 5/16x14 piloted joint, not the 18 pin the cheap ones used. In 1992 the SM-3 MSRP was $400, which would be about $926 today. Overpriced? Yes. But it gives you some idea of what we are dealing with here. These aren't Bushkas, but they ain't dime store cues either.

Sorry to disappoint.

Example 3 with the 18 pin many use to ID such cues but actually was rarely used in the better ones. In fact, this is the only one with an 18 pin I have ever found in one. This is a more modern version of the SM-2 from the 1992 catalog.

Points sharp and perfectly even, no glue marks, etc. Not the "K-Mart" cues.

He left many cues and cases, most of which he never actually used, they were given to him in the hopes he would be seen using them.
The Gus I have is a well used cue. It’s all over the internet if you google it. Was refinished by proficient billiards before I bought it 15 years ago. The wrap was saved, it doesn’t look great, but feels amazing as it’s well used Cortland. Was the right move to save it.

I’ll post a pic of that cue in the Gus thread in the gallery section someday. It’s a 59” cue as well.

I’ll see if Barry knows anything about the history of that cue. If he does I’ll get it all documented from him. I’m certain Miz played with it. It’s a sexy Gus. Pretty fancy 4 pt cue.

Having one he actually used is extra special. I do think I have seen those pics. Still, it will be good to see them in the gallery thread.

It will be the next one I post. I’ll note what I know about it presently. I hope Barry knows something I don’t know. Fingers crossed. If not, it’s still one hell of a Gus. I’m sure most Gus fans will recognize it, it pops up all over the place when searching Gus Szam cues.
