Mocksville N.C COURT SQUARE BILLIARDS 9 BALL TOURNAMENT

Mocksville is a great place to play.. Last week Mr Mike Davis stopped in and capitalized nicely on his knowledge bank ...:-).

Re: Tourny Recommendation

Using your same handicap method and redraw after each round format, a simple race to 2 or bettere yet 3 (alternate break) 10 ball would be more fair and lots more fun.

10 ball rules... Same basic Texas express rules apply- good hit rules, push out after the break etc (but as before, with no 3 foul rule)... the Shooter calls 1 ball into 1 pocket per shot... ie no slop!.. 10 ball (only) pocketed on the snap WINS. Any 'spotted' money balls get respotted on the break ONLY and ONLY the 10 ball gets respotted if pocketed accidentally during game (all other 'non' called money balls or otherwise stay down). After the break, pocketing the 'called' 10 ball (or any 'called' money balls) always wins during normal play. Remember, only 1 called ball per shot... a very simple and honest game. >>> :yeah:

The 10 ball game is played with the option to make original shooter "shoot again" if no safety was called prior to a 'missed shot'. Either its a 'called safe' shot or it isn't. A 'missed shot' is if the called object ball (or the called ball in a combo/carrom shot) is pocketed into a wrong hole or any other ball is pocketed during the shot while the shooter missed pocketing the intended called ball. (ie 2 unintended balls fall but called intended does not fall ='s 'missed shot') Incoming player can either shoot or pass back the shot to the original shooter.

Only One Safety Rule: A 'good hit' is necessary obviously but if any ball is pocketed on a 'called safety shot' the incoming player has the 'shoot again option' available (not ball in hand). Rememner... no 3 foul rule. This makes for a fun educational competitive pool game for every ball.

imo..Slop teaches nothing and causes people to resent our sport. :bow-down:

It might take a little longer (race to 3) but its winter time so lets get started say @ 7 ish instead of 8:30... just a thought.. :outtahere:

Plenty of Fun

Entry fee for Fri. is 12.00
Entry fee for Sat. is 15.00
Entry fee for Sun is 12.00
10.00 of each entry is for the pot, but we ALWAYS pay MORE than that!!! WE NEVER KEEP all the green fee's . So what I'm saying is we ALWAYS have a ADDED POT ,and if we have more than 20 players we pay 3 places ,more than 30 we pay 4 places. Also ALWAYS pay 15.00 to Last WOMAN standing on Fri, and Sat. Most often on Fri and Sun we do 100% payout, as in no Green Fee !! And Most often Keep very little if any of Sat. I do it compared to if People spend money at bar, for Food and Drink, ect. If bar has good night I pay back 100 % and then some!! We are getting close to 40 people on reg basis, and if we get that ,and people SPEND Money at bar,I will not only pay out 100% I will ADD to Payout!!! Just my way of saying Thank You for the Support!!
Thank you for asking!!

This is an exceptional tournament in my opinion for the money. Its a pill pull tournament with multiple losses. Average players are going to get more than 2 losses more than likely depending on how tough they are known to be and they are fair about it. Pulling pills means its luck of the draw so there is no monking around with the line up possible.

Mike Davis and other good players come and the way that have it handicapped, its not an automatic they are going to make the money so everyone has a chance and you get to see some really good players play. Which means you get to learn something.

This makes it Modified, Modified Round Robin format which is a good thing. I will be the first one to say Id rather play one of these anyday than a Double Elimination of any kind for any amount of money and the races to 2 make you play hard and nobody is breathing down your neck for shooting safe.

These guys have some things right in my opinion and want your business and they prove it.

Pool, Juke Box music, a room full of players from all over and people laughing and having fun.....getting plenty of play.....It does not get any better than that.

Just another lovely day in paradise.....

format?

Reviewed the thread and .. sorry if I missed it... but what is the format? Thanks...

Its a race to 2 with a 2 to 6 loss rating system.
Come ck us out we have had 45 players last 2 weeks
and a good calcutta. B&R is 325per ball as of rt now

Do you still have weekly tournaments?

Yes they do... Every Sat around 7:30ish... 9 Ball, Tex-express, no 3 foul... race 2... handicapped with both ball and game spot, new redraw after every round.

... But there's a major problem with This tournament 9-B format. It severely punishes the loser when the winner pisses in balls (ie the 9 on the break, or pissing any ball then gets out). A pool players getting rewarded for poor pool playing in a race to 2 makes for a 'bad taste' for this tournament. I've won it a couple of times.... only because I didn't run over from other players pissing in balls... also I have lost 3 matches (handicap) in a row and only shot 1 kick shot in the tournament that night due to the other player "getting credit" for bad pool.

...BUTTTT there's a simple fix that would bring more 'satisfaction' to either winning or losing.... and more interest in this tournament.

Either Switch to 10-B..

OR

Play 9 ball (same rules currently used / race etc) except play it like 10-Ball...

That is:
1) call 1 ball into 1 pocket per shot and
2) make it that you can't win on the break (just like the rule for spotted balls).

After talking with most players who has been mentally injured from watching other player benefit from bad pool (lucking in..to win in a race to 2)... I can say with out hesitation... Not just my opinion... imo...Pool should be fun, educational and socially engaging for all... all of the time. This tournament format both limits ones mental health and one's social networking capability. :D
