You mean modified single elimination? Like what APA uses in Vegas? How many players or teams are you starting with?

In essence, I want everyone to play 2 matches guaranteed. If you lose the first match, you get to play one more. But if you win the first one, and lose in second match, you are out.

I guess I could use 2 single elimination charts...

That sounds like a bad format. Is there any advantage to winning your first match? Sounds like the first match doesn't even matter, so why not just make it single elimination or double elimination?

That is called modified single elimination. You can find brackets for that at any APA website. Usually losing in the 1st 2 rounds will bounce you to the losers side, after that it's single elim.

The tournament moves faster, with 20 people, you can finish it in one day.

Every game matters, if you are on the loser's end, even you advance to the final, you still need to beat your opponent twice.

my 2 cents, I find this format is more fair, it gives people a second chance, hence, more people are likely to join.

It would make it go faster, but so would single elimination. On the winner's side, only the person who makes it to the finals gets to lose without getting knocked out. Or maybe they could just play a longer race.

I don't know, seems unfair to let some people lose and others not. But I do see the appeal to letting everyone at least play 2 matches. Maybe we'll try it for the small tournaments we hold at my school.
