Modified Tighter Pockets + New Z9 Cloth = New Level of Entertainment!

I've been toying with the idea of tightening the pockets on my table for the longest time but i kept procrastinating cos the cloth was so new and i wanted to wait till it's worn. The large pockets on my home table do much for entertaining guests and my ego, but when i go out and play the reality check is more than i can digest...

Then came the problem of the cloth where i noticed that it was becoming "slippery" and increasing tough to play on. With that it gave me a very good reason to do something about the $2-Hooker pockets.

Was originally going for Simonis but was advice to try out Z9 from Germany. Main selling point was that they lasted longer and won't succumb to weather and moisture as much.

Pocket tightening was the main challenge since i'm in China and don't have access to world class mechanics like RKC aka Glen. I asked around from who i know and shimming was the most common, or rather the only method they're doing it around here. I have to pay a mechanic to travel more than a thousand mile to get to me...

Anyway here are some pictures.

This table is just amazing, it made me realize one important about myself and it has nothing to do with pool. That I knew that many swear words.

Thanks, it plays great and I'm glad I heeded professional advice and went with Z9.

What a beauty. No ballbangers allowed.

Thanks

You'll have to tell me what your high run is in 14.1 on that table!

Haha I don't play 14.1, not even one pocket. Infact players in mainland china plays mainly 8 or 9 ball with occasional 10 ball. Taiwanese on the other hand plays 14.1.

Maybe I should start playing 14.1 huh...

Are you overcompensating for something?

I WAS going to come and visit you but that table is now only good for three cushion billiards. Doncha think maybe you went overboard on the shims? In any event you ought to be pretty damn accurate after playing on those pockets........or maybe you will get really frustrated and quit. :-)

Well, have fun buddy, tell me in a week how you are doing with it. I don't even think an aiming system works for those pockets, you have to pray them in.

John I knew you were gonna come on here and say something about them tight pockets...

Actually the pockets are ok, still considered large if you compare them with Chinese pool. I just kept laughing when my ball goes "pin ball" on me in the pockets. After a while you just realize what shooting with ample strength means..I'm still trying to get used to it but its fun.

Don't start with the aiming system...anyway I've seen you use it on a snooker table for a couple of shots so I think that your system works as long as table proportion ratio remains. The only way I can screw with your system is if I shorten the table in some weird manner and re-adjust them pockets...I like pool too much to wanna do that to my own table just to screw with you..yet.

Oh that's right I forgot all you have up there is that Chinese 8 Ball in the pool rooms. Yeah in that case you NEED the tight pockets to get you tuned up for the pool room.

Pretty much what I was thinking...'new level of entertainment' for those that get to see you play on that thing!

It's really not as bad as it seems.
Just check these pictures out, this is Chinese Pool. These pockets are way tighter...

I mean we do get regular pool tables here but the ratio in a pool hall is probably 1:8 to 1:10 . It's still mostly Chinese pool. The regular pool tables are pretty good, the only problem is finding people to play with..

The table looks perfect!

I love the way they mark the tables in Asia.

What do they mark them with? A grease pen? And where does the line at the foot spot begin and end?

Great setup!

Haha they mark the tables with Liquid Paper aka Correction Fluid! Hahha it's not the prettiest but it gets the job done.

The line starts at the head spot marked with a small one inch perpendicular line making the entire marking a long "T" with short horizontal top. Line is about 30cm (about 11.8").

I don't like the head spot cos the correction fluid sort of smudged a little that's why I'm looking to get those stickers for headspots. Smokey has offered to give me some so all will be good.

What? I have never seen anyone use correction fluid and would KILL anyone who came close to my table with that.

Use a Pencil.

Really?? Every table I've seen in my area uses correction fluid? Even in Shanghai. I thought its pretty much a norm in China. I guess you murdered enough mechanics for news to spread, that's why no one comes to u with correction fluid...I'm pretty sure a lot of them do that in Xiamen too.

Whats wrong with a Sharpie Jive??

What do the corner pockets measure at the points??

Looks like 3 3/4"
