When I saw Shane in Jacksonville, he told me that it is not necessary to gamble once you reach his level of play in order to stay on top. He said all you have to do is practice. While he is a slightly better player than myself, I take exception to his statement.
I think it is necessary to stay in competitive shape not just practice. Practice is great but being put in competitive situations on a regular basis, conditions you to hold up and perform under pressure.
The interesting thing is that is almost impossible especially these days for any pro to stay on top for longer than a couple of tournaments in a row. There is always someone a little hungrier waiting at that next tournament.
