money game king vs money tournament king

with all due respect you would not have to stake me against the top pinoys, ricky bird in mobile already did that .i played alcano 1000 ahead sets and after many hours broke even playing even 10ball.the next day we played a race to eleven 10ball for 1000 and i beat him 11-1 in front of a hundred people and he broke his cue down.i managed to break and run 8 of those 11 games so my break was working.which is my point exactly ,if any of the best players have their break working it will look like the other guy has no chance.furthermore i did not say i would play them 9ball but if i did its going to be closer than if they play onehole or 14.1.again just to clear what im saying up i am officially asking yang or dennis to play ,onehole,14.1,9ball.we have to play all three and if they beat me like that i will be the first to say they are the better all around player.just a side note i was sitting their as corey asked efren to play 9ball for 3000 even and efren said no lets play more onehole.

every dog has his day ! ;)

Joe,

It doesn't have to be big money. It can be done in fun, like you will not post a thread for a week if you lose, or something silly like that.

Archer had tried that and he did very well indeed against Django. He even broke and ran the whole first set against Django. Well, Django came up to him and asked him to double the bet, Archer declined, and Django proceeded to beat him and win the money.

So you see, my friend, you can put up anybody against these guys, and we won't even break a sweat!!!

You got my drift???

In Archer's defense, he was betting his own money while Bustamante was getting staked. While it is true that Bustamante came out 1 set ahead, Archer won more games. The scores of their 3 sets where 13-11 Bustamante, 13-0 Archer, and 13-11 Bustamante. Archer won 35 games and Bustamante won 26. Had they been playing 10 ahead rather than races, the outcome may have been different. At this time Archer was in his prime and Bustamante was considered the most feared money player in the world. If I had been staking Archer I would insisted he play another set, but I can understand him quiting when he did because the fact that he was betting his own money adds alot of pressure that would be hard to overcome already being one set down after 3 long sets against one of the greatest players in the world.

I remember those years. Busty was wreaking havok all over Germany during those times while Archer was dominating the U.S. pro circuit. where cues weren't much of a factor to one's real skill. quite sad though since there seems to be some pool politics involved during those years, where players where divided among two rival pool org. which means the players on one side cannot play the other on tournaments sanctioned by their respective org. those years were one of pool's greatest moments, though most people throughout the world didn't give much of a damn about pool not until recently. pool's distinction as a gambling sport had stucked to it's very core and is only given it's much awaited, long overdued respect as a valid sport just recently.

Efren may be better player overall than Yang, but can he achieve higher B&R percentage than him in a long race?
I don't care how many magical shots he can perform. The key to winning long 9ball matches is B&R percentage...

It doesn't get any longer than being 17 games down going to 120 when going into the final day with the 5 time US Open Champion/2 time World Champion breaking against you.

I don't think there is a longer single match of nine ball on record for more money than $100,000 is there?

Efren Reyes is the current Money Game King. Why? Because he plays all games at world class speed. Because he will give up ridiculous weight and play cheap and try his best to outrun the nuts - and does a lot of the time.

Efren Reyes is the Tournament Money Game King. Why? Because he has snapped off every major tournament for the biggest dollars. Because he has won Master of the Table at DCC for three years in a row. Because he remains consistent and seems to get better with age.

So he says that he won't play Dennis for big money. Big deal. You guys never heard of a "move" before. Efren is a pretty good chess player. You ever think maybe, possibly somewhere in the old hustler's mind he is setting a trap that may come to fruition sometime down the road. Being known as the best money player is a good way to go broke as everyone wants the spot that goes with having that reputation.

In 9-Ball it's a toss up on any given day as to which guy is in gear. It's much more of a break and run fest than it is a test of all around skill. Let Yang bet the farm and play Efren 9 Ball, 10 Ball, 8 Ball, One Pocket, and Rotation and then you will see who the Real KING of POOL is. And Dennis can bet it up going up against Effie in those games as well and HE WON'T get there.

And I will GLADLY go broke betting on Efren if either of those matchups occur. My only limit is how much money and tangible assets I can lay my hands on to bet.

And that boys is the "official" statement of the day by the current KING OF 9-Ball in the USA. I think his statement carries more weight than ALL of our speculations, postulation, and wishful thinking put together.

ok, I'm having a few thoughts on this subject that no one has touched on, and might not be the most popular.....

I don't know much about these 2 guys except that they ARE money players.

> since there was so much time before the match, there must have been tons of $$$ being bet right?

> how much did the winner get?.....a measly $10g's

> is it possible Dennis IS still the King of money pool? even though he "lost"

> maybe it was an all time great move? the question being, is the title of money king more valuable than the money?

ok, so there it is, I had reservations about putting my thoughts out there. If you all have read my posts you know I don't start crap here, but I just wanted to give things a different spin. Sorry if I ruffled any feathers:D

Amen to that bother!

If and when that does happen, I'll be there by your side going broke betting on Efren as well. He is the greatest all around cue-artist of our time...if not all time!
