Money Order or PayPal "Gift" ?

I have purchased and sold a couple cues on here and I am wondering why people mess with sending MO/ Cashiers Checks when you can just send money on PayPal as a "Gift" and its FREE for both parties correct?

You obviously arent getting protected from PayPal but neither are you with a cashiers check..:confused:

The Paypal gift route is not free. It is just cheaper than their normal transaction fee.
 
When you send money as a gift, the sender gets charged, that I know for sure. As I''ve paid for something that way. At the time I didn't know there was a charge for sending money as a gift. You need to consider that when you make an offer on something. I don't know if the receiver has to pay a fee as I've never asked anybody to send money as a gift when selling something.
 
O... I was told it was free of charges. So they take the same percent out for as if you were sending money for a good/item purchased?

I purchased an item for $75 and the seller ask if I pay as a gift. I thought it was free...NOT. Paypal charged me $77.48 which work out to a 3.3% fee to the buyer...me. The seller does not get hit with anything so be careful if someone asks you to gift the money.

I have sent money and received money as a gift payment and have not had the issue of them taking anything out. I sent a couple thousand as a gift and it didn't charge me any extra. And everytime I have received gift payments the full amount is there.

Maybe you guys are doing it wrong. It has to be personal gift payment. That's how I've done it and never had any issues.

Yep, these statements are correct...thousands sent with no fees here...
However, I have heard of this type of transaction catching up with the buyer/seller...not sure what happened though. If recall correctly...The funds were held until someone payed up on the fee...
If done seldomly, there's no reason to raise eyebrows....

it depends on how the gift payment is funded. When you set up your account, you have to tie in your source of funds, like a bank account or a credit card. When send $ using paypal, you can have paypal withdraw money directly from your bank account or have paypal charge a credit card. When I send $ as a gift, I have the option of choosing the bank account to withdraw, which will charge neither of us fees, or choosing the credit card, which will then give me the option of charging the fees to the sender or receiver.

your right but some people want to use "gift" for most of their transactions, which ruins it for the people that are sending a gift to their kid at school or what ever. I'm one that likes free things in life too but i don't take advantage or abuse it. Oh btw when you send a "gift" for a cue, remember when you receive it damaged you will have no recourse for filing a claim. Hope this helps so no one gets burned.
