I think all states are required to have depositories for unclaimed funds. Banks, utility companies, insurance companies, on and on, have to turn funds they aren't entitled to in to the state and the funds can stay in the depository for many years.
A site for news of my state had an article and a link to do an online search to see if you have any funds coming. The article claimed one in six people did. I had searched years ago and came up dry but figured what the hey, I did a pretty general search checking to see if anyone in my family had money coming. Lo and behold, Hu has an old water company deposit on some investment property I once owned coming back to me for the cost of a postage stamp!
Years ago a bank ran me down and gave me back a pretty nice chunk too. Do a search for your state and states that you have lived in "unclaimed funds" and see what you come up with.
