Moori only will not adhere - Perplexed?

Hi Joey,

I sand with fresh 320 grit, and I believe you want to sand it enough to reach the leather surface, which shouldn't take much to do. Then what you'll have is a surface that is inpregnated with glue, but not inbetween the two.

Hi Dennis,
I do a little differantly. I sand with used 220 fine grit, [ just rough it up a little], then take my razor knife and cut very shallow lines north to south, then east to west, as if it was graft paper, then apply the glue and it's done. The grafted cuts, allows the glue to have more GLUED surface. For the top of the ferrules, I spin the shaft and put 2 very small circle groves on the face. Doing that, just be careful and not get to close to the edge of the ferrules face.
Works very well.

Hi Blud,
Thank you. I've considered doing the same as you. I do sand north/south, and east/west as you do. My reasoning for not cutting the grooves, is for two reasons. I haven't had any adhereing problems yet the way I do it, and the other reason is that I want the tip to make as much contact with the ferrule as possible. Please don't think I think my method is better, it works for me. If I ever have a failure, I will try your method, and try it first. I like your idea for the tough to glue to ferrules, and think I'll adopt your method for them.
Thank you Blud

Dennis, by all means, use the, it ain't broke method.

I circle sand tips, because I have found that if I sand up and down then cross ways, this will remove the up and down sanded surface, so I just sand in a circle, them cut the shallow groves.

The reason for the very shallow N/S,E/W groves, it gives more tip surface area for the glue to adhere. These groves are only about .020 deep, as are the groves in the face of the ferrules. This makes a much better a bond, { more bonding area}. The tip is actually has more surface contacting the ferrule, by way of these small channels. After all the glue is the strongest link.

I feel you have to have as much surface as possible. This has worked really well over the yrs.
