More on perceived snobbery.

LOL!!! Good honest question. I lived in Syracuse, NY until I was about 7 or 8yrs old, and the Yankees had a AAA farm team there. OJ was still playing football, so the Yankees and the Buffalo Bills were my team from when I was little (when I first really started following professional sports). Because of those years, I hated Tom Watson for a long time, and loved Bobo Brazil.

When I moved to Massachusetts, there was this one playoff game that still gets shows over and over on ESPN. Raiders vs. Pats. The Patriots lost the entire game on one play, IMO. A play that they like to call "the Phantom Pass Interference Call," that really handed the championship to Oakland that year. So, I've been a Patriots ever since. Even through the dismal years.

The Yankees losing the W.S. in 1976, but then winning in 1977 and 1978 sealed my allegiance to them. Even through the dismal years. Being a fan through the terrible years, I absolutely hate the fact that George Steinbrenner continues to try to buy championships, disrupting any team championship chemistry.

If I had known anything about the Red Sox, witnessing in real time their loss in 1975 would have probably made me a Red Sox fan. But I knew nothing about them at the time, since at the time it was like my first World Series that I ever paid attention to, no allegiance to them was formed.

Regards,

Fred <~~~ and now you know... the rest of the story

I am also an ex New Yorker who grew up with the Yankee legacy but like your self, I detest Steinbrenners annual "BUY A RING Philosophy!" I now live in Atlanta and have because of their 90's rise from mediocracy through developing farm team players and I guess because I am also just loyal to the locals! (evidenced by my owning Falcons season tickets since '83 :D) Have rooted for the Braves!
Peace! MrLucky aka Phil

That would be the BOSTON Braves of course. :)

Since We're Talking Sports Teams....

I grew up in western NY outside Buffalo Left when I was 17, only going back to visit family.

I'm not a baseball fan at all, and right now I'm really a hockey fan. If football is on I'm not interested ....unless the Bills are playing.

I'm 42 and still loyal to the teams I grew up with.....thick or thin.....I'm rooting for Buffalo.

I might add.... Thank God for O J Simpson.....Without him Buffalo would be known for Chicken wings and getting beaten by Dallas.....1 Stanley cup and 2 Superbowls.......Sheese...

I guess I should have put the word, "recently." The Yankees up until 1995 were not perennial contenders for 15 years.

Fred
Yankee fans were WAY more bearable in the dozen years before then!
It's only this year that Mets fans are dusting off their caps, and buying new ones, in large numbers and wearing em out on the street again, since the '80s, when NYC was a Mets town for awhile.

But I missed the original debate here. Like, as long as they're selling 99-cent travel bottles of powder, I'm not sure why I should put on one of those funny hand-covering devices.:p Also gives you a boost, getting clean hands, when you step away from the table for one of those lost-three-games-in-a-row tactical bathroom retreats.

Other than metal in rings, I do not own another cue that has a single pop of anything. I have cues that the metal rings have raised, but not popped. One cue that has a metal ring that popped:

Fred <~~~ needs a pink and black glove

Does the type of metal used have anything to do with the metal rings/inlays popping?

Silver vs Nickle Silver vs Aluminum?

Or is it totally just workamanship?

From the story of the first guy who ran a 147 in Snooker

http://www.eaba.co.uk/books/davis/chapter1.html

From Chapter 7

Golfers, tennis players, cricketers and so forth often change their equipment - except in rare cases where they have some sentimental attachment to, say, an old putter. New equipment is frequently stronger, more supple or in some other way a technological advance and, in any case, equipment in most games has only a limited life. But billiards and snooker players stick to their chosen cue once they have found success with it; thereafter it becomes a lifelong companion to be treated with supreme care. I have known only one pro who changed his cue at the peak of his playing career. That was the New Zealand champion, Clark McConachy - and the change did him no good at all.

Gloves.

Let's face it. Gloves look silly and are going to be a point of ridicule no matter what you do (pool or otherwise). Especially since the gloves in pool are half-split that look like someone's fashion failure. But look at that post that someone asked "Do any real pool players wear a glove." Was there a single person who denied that many real pool players including several professionals where a glove? I wear one in the summer and in humid rooms. And I ridicule them. They look funny. Goofy. Down right hilarious. Especially if the color doesn't match with the rest of your outfit. What a faux pas. Is that snobbery??

Fred <~~~ needs a pink and black glove

By winning the U.S. Open, while wearing a glove, I think John Schmidt took a giant step forward, to make gloves respectable.

Btw Fred, I definitely think pink is your color. :p

Makes me wonder if he did the moon walk or the crotch grab when he sank the last 9..... Was anyone there to hear the HeeHe????:D

Go kick ass with the silly looking glove, but at least do it withsome tongue in cheek humor..... After all you have to be able to laugh at yourself.....why should everyone else have all the fun.....;)

I really like Flex's driving glove idea.....the leather from the glove burnishes your shaft while you shoot....I've got an old pair of driving gloves.....hmmmm...
