More Shameless Bragging - Vegas Bound

Just wanted to drop an amateur note to brag that my BCA/ACS 8-ball team won this session's tournament and the big prize of the trip to the Nationals. Our team (most of whom have participated several teams at the BCA Nationals) opted for the BCA Nationals in Vegas in May.

The tournament was held at the huge Good Times Billiards Emporium in Somerville, MA. They used to have 100 or more tables in there, I believe, but I think they're down to 50 - 75. Most are Gold Crown III's, with an unusually high number of 8' Gold Crowns. There is also one heated Venderhoeven 3C table, and one 10' American Snooker table. For amateur play, I think the 8' Gold Crown is the most fun since the tables and cushions play pretty well, and the pockets are usually more than fair. For higher level play, I think the tables are too easy and too small.

Anyway, my teammates all played like champions, picking themselves up if they made early mistakes, and running out when the times were crucial. I'm very proud of them, and mostly am very proud of my team captain who opted to sit himself out of the final match knowing that the strongest team we could field would have him on the sidelines keeping score. It takes a champion's heart and strong team captain to set his ego aside for the good of the team.

And, I only a few beers and only made an ass of myself twice. Not a bad day at all.

Congratulations Fred.

Are you going to the ACS 9-ball tournament in Iowa in a couple weeks?

I noticed you switched from the Gilbert back to the Schuler ???

No, I'm not going to either the ACS 9-ball or the BCA 9-ball. You?

I did. I love the Gilbert, and I had a great time using it. But, I've cleaned it up, and retired it from serious barroom play. Returning to the Schuler wasn't a big change, and my body seemed to fall right back into place with it. I'm using a regular squirt Schuler standard professional taper that I reduced to 12 3/4 mm.

Hey Fred, it's Pete, A big Congrads, to you and your team, I really hope you guys knock them around in May. It's really cool to meet people you see only on line. I hope we meet again.

You're right Fred... this is probably the most amateurish note you've ever written. Congratulations anyway!!

Lol... You're a brave man, Fred. That's one guy I wouldn't want to wrestle with under any circumstances. What if he fell on you?
