Mosconi Cup 2025, Dec. 3-6, Alexandra Palace, London

We could save a bunch of time if the admins bumped last year's thread and changed the date in the title.

If it weren't for Shaw's antics. Would anyone bother watching anymore..? Can everyone else also envision the Mosconi without Shaw these days.? It would be a bunch of emotionless Euro robots vs the already disheartened and downtrodden US squad. Even the walk outs after each rack look scripted when Shaw isn't involved.

Oh, an idea... A best of 3 round robin of beer pong before each match up.

When our team can show up with the same chemistry as Europe then we will win. Until then I just dont think it will happen. Next year they need to do something beforehand to create a different dynamic. Europe is talking a lot more, hyping eachother up, being more supportive mean while our team is pouting and hardly talking or smiling. Hopefully they went out for beers last night and blew off a little steam.
Of course, chemistry and mental attitude are important
But numbers don’t lie
The difference in average Fargo is showing that the Fargo system is reasonably accurate in predicting results
The euros just are better than us
In all sports, there are upsets here and there where the numbers don’t work out as predicted
But given enough matches, the cream comes to the top

Does Helfert even watch pool anymore? I’ll bet we have Mosconi cup soon. It’s coming.

SVB
Ghorst
Evans
Verner
Henderson
No Wolford??? I have no clue who Evans so i'd put Shane Wolford and Lukas on for sure. Regardless we're still gonna be the dog for the foreseeable future.

Team USA can't afford to drop more than 1 game in today's session.

The session needs to be 4-1 or 5-1, depending on how many games they play.

Hi Lou!😃
They practice- but not to the same standards
American professionals do not include 14.1 in their arsenals. To their detriment.

Hi Angel.

Yes, I think there's that. And I think many may not be figuring the equipment into it. While some may say a week is time enough to acclimate I disagree. With those pockets -- and whatever factors the cloth, rails, and balls are introducing -- I think it far more.

I cannot recall where I heard it but it was said that Filler plays on his home table, with 4.25 pockets, every day until he runs 200.

Do we have anyone with that work ethic?

Lou Figueroa
If it's on the internet does it have to be true?

How about any 600 or above Fargo? I haven't shot any pool in a year and I would empty my pockets betting I can get out from there, with a house cue! And so would most of the guys/gals posting on here.

I want to say one more thing about that shot. The nine is in such an ideal position (very makeable) that he could have let out his stroke and played position above the side pocket. Still leaving him an easy shot on the nine, with no danger of scratching in the side. What we saw was a case of a pool player's mind going blank. He froze under pressure. That's a mental problem, not a physical one.
Exactly....2 rails up above side or around the world 3 or 4 rails to the same place.

Inexcusable.

Jay Helfert explained many of the reasons, and many other s have pointed out major issues, however people just get upset and make excuses. I can accept that as currently constituted, America does not have the amount of quality Players as the rest of the World, and doesn’t know what to do about it. I haven’t been proud of American Pool on the Big Stage in a long while. Carry on, though. The American System can’t draw the interest of the Young enough to attend a Tournament for free in many parts of the Country, and they don’t even know who our Top Players are.
The "American System" you refer to simply does not exist. What does exist is bar table league pool. Look, we all love pool on this site and that's our jam...but if there were a broader demand for structured pool in America on a significant scale, then someone or some entity would step in to deliver that. That our society does not invest in pool relative to other endeavors is not a sin. Societies invest in what they collectively value. Or they invest in what one rich dude enjoys. Anyway, for example, I drove past a new Cricket field in Lexington KY numerous times this past year. The players obviously were enjoying their game. However, I doubt any player on that field bemoans America's lack of presence on the Cricket world stage. We play this game cuz its fun and we find it challenging and rewarding. Or we play it just to pass the time between beers. Both approaches are just fine. In fact, maybe the latter approach is more enjoyable. Of course, the latter would not have delivered my personal best high run in 14.1 two Saturday's ago, so there's that. Anyway, it's Friday, and no one can diminish the splendor of the weekend, not even a lopsided Mosconi Cup outcome.

Carry on boyz and gurlz. I won't watch this event, but I'll enjoy the banter surrounding it.

Agree, we need something to talk about. A competitive contest vs good old fashioned schadenfreude is also a lopsided battle, with the latter oftentimes winning out. Just sayin', folks like witnessing a good ole blood letting every now and then.

C'mon man. The wholesale dogging display i've watched has nothing to do with the equipment. That's just a cop-out pure-n-simple. These guys have played pool their whole life, if they can't figure a table out in a couple practice sessions they shouldn't even be there.

'Every now and then'???? Do have any idea what the US's record is the last 20odd yrs? Since '05 the US has won all of FOUR times and in five of those years they haven't got to five. 'Competitive' is not an adjective i'd use to describe it any more. Even exhibition matches should have some parity but this deal has jumped the shark.

But both teams are playing the same table - is the table really a discriminator?
