Mosconi Cup Day 4 (Final Day)

Posted earlier, but very fitting that SVB drops the last point...I imagine he feels terrible, I hope he does. What I mean is I hope it means enough to him that he feels terrible.

Is he the worst Mosconi Cup player ever? Amongst guys that have played more than once at least?
I looked at this a year ago using AtLarge's data set (in the chart, the word "games" should have been changed to "matches"):

In a simple sense, the answer is yes - SVB has the largest negative point contribution of any player in Mosconi Cup history.

However, that is largely a function of him participating in so many Mosconi Cups. There is a large number of players who did worse on a per-event basis - Dechaine, Bergman, Peach, and Engert being the most prominent.

It's easy to look at Fargo ratings and assume that Dechaine should be on the team but he is arguably the worst Mosconi Cup player ever. Dechaine contributed almost the same number of negative points as SVB despite playing in only a fraction of the number of MCs.

are you saying he has a bad, but not the worst, long term (say more than 10 matches) winning % ?

Has anyone marked my post from when the score was 5-5? someone wanted to bet me but I don't gamble, if I did I'd win the bet lol.

anyways whats up with Jayson comments to his teammates, he sounds very obnoxious imo. I wouldnt want to play with him rofl
It might have been me, I thought the bet was they don't win another? In any case...yeah, they got destroyed. Well called.

Winning % is not that informative if you want to know who the best/worst player in the MC is, because Shane also plays Europe's best players. That would be like evaluating how good a doctor is by comparing how many of their patients die compared to another doctor: the best doctor will likely treat the sickest patients, and so their mortality rate will be higher just by selection bias.

All that said, I fully agree that Shane has played terribly this cup.

For more than 10 matches, he definitely doesn't have the worst +/- points contributed per match (a number of players including Dechaine, Bergman, Engert, van den Berg).

For more than 20 matches, only Nick van den Berg is worse.

For more than 30 matches, SVB is the worst.

Although i don't "like" the outcome of your analysis i "like" your effort in making the info available, THANKS, adam

Right. Maybe the accu-stat TPA would be useful here, although I dont know if anyone tracks that.

"best/worst" player is hard to quantify and subject to debate whereas winning % over a significant base is more telling

i appreciate your comment, made me think and define the point i was trying to get across

Post Press Conference
Interesting- Emily asked Alex if he could pick one captain to go head to head with on Team USA, who would it be. Few of them mentioned Johan :p

I was busy today.

Went to watch a few hours later..could tell by the length of the video...it was over.

Such a good day 1

This was a humiliation

The crowd is a lot more mellow today. They’re not screaming while the Americans are down on the shot. I wonder if they made some announcements before the action started. Or maybe this early they’re only on two pints so far.
EXACTLY!!
The crowd once drank York Hall dry!
