Something has to be done.

Asking players to travel all over the country, to tournaments with little added money, to get enough points to make the team, to win $10-$20,000, is insane.

Everyone competing.....will spend at least that much if they attend all the tmnts.

The 5 winners will break even.

Well, traveling around and playing pool tournaments is what these guys do anyway, right? But to the extent that they would have to travel more, or play more (or different) events than they were going to, what is your solution?

Mike Dechaine is at hard times playing. Usually he doesnt travel west coast.

Damn the commentator wasn't exaggerating that there are about 15 more tourneys.

That's good. If Dechaine ever wants to be a world class player he needs to step out of his comfort zone.

Players don't normally travel coast to coast as often as these tmnts require.

There must be a minimum add that would allow a payout of 1/4 the field to make it worth pursuing.

A lot of players do it some travel around the world ,, problem with some is they don't have any sponsers to help carry the load of they can't manage thier money ,, both are a essential part of being a successfull pool player ,, anyone who can't get to enough points events don't deserve to be on the team

After thinking about this more I think there's way to many points events ,, all bar box events and world events should be excluded right off the bat because they don't play on bar boxes and I do agree the cost of overseas trips is way to high
I don't see any of the excluded events suffering ,
What I would do is take 4 to 8 events 9 ball and 10 ball starting after the U.S. Open 9 ball
And have it finish with the Open

This is the first time, since the Camel Pro events where points were important. By doing this....something is being done for players, nothing has been going on for a loooooooooooooooooooooooong time. This IS something.

True dat ..there is some that realize that JA is trying and look where Rodney is I'm pretty sure he knows where he stands in points and I'm pretty sure he does not want to leave it to a captains pic because I'm pretty sure he thinks he won't be one so he's leaving nothing to chance

If the players don't see it as worth pursuing they won't pursue it.

I don't mean to be flippant, but the top pros can each decide for themselves whether the prestige and money available from the MC is worth the time and expense to travel more than they would have otherwise.

The issue raised about bar boxes is interesting, not because of fairness but because the MC is played on 9' tables and at least some players play better on 7' tables, so high finishes in bb events may not translate into being right for the MC. On the other hand, there are some great BB events and it is hard to ignore success in a big event against top players.

Mike did not make it. Hunter Lombardo did and he lives in Manhatten. He told me he would try and make all of them including the three that are out of the USA to give him the best chance off representing the USA in the Mosconi Cup.

IMO the Mosconi Cup has gotten to be a joke in so many ways. This point system, with 7' table tournament counting, changing the way USA get picked. One year, only GOOD BOYS can play and the next year you need to have done jail time. Changing the rack and how you break the rack. All of Europe vs 50 states competes in the USA, with maybe 6 players that can compete with 5 Darren's...if they get enough points and the captain likes them. IMO the USA won't win again for many years. Johnnyt

But at least it's a start.

It is a start. It is a beginning where everyone knows what is necessary, and those who want to pursue it can, and those that don't won't. The point system in place can always be adjusted to correct any problems that occur. I agree the barbox tournaments should be excluded, but Matchroom will make that decision. Teacherman brought up a good point as for the expenses and travel, so hopefully a solution to that problem, and any others that pops up, can be evaluated. The old system of just randomly picking people; THAT was a joke.
